Willow has free fluid in his abdomen. I'm heartbroken, but just trying to keep him happy and comfortable for whatever time he has left. Please send prayers and good thoughts. I'm having trouble keeping my head straight with this news.

I'm hoping that he has some good quality time with you.

What does free fluid in his abdomen mean?

Sending hugs and snowflakes. I miss you guys posting and am sending you all the best, and will add Willow to my prayer list.

Jordan, we are sending some beautiful vines to Willow in the hopes that whatever it is will improve. Very sorry to hear that he is not well. Thinking of you,

Ella & Rusty

Thanks Dyana and Barb.

Dyana, free fluid can be from a number of things, but its never a good thing. Kidney failure, his never ending battle with pancreatitis, liver failure, cancer are all possibilities. He said his heart and lungs sound great so less likely to be his heart. Kidney values were off at last check not too long ago. And he's dehydrate and fights getting fluids so its an uphill battle to keep him hydrated. I hate the unknown.

Thanks for the explanation Jordan. I am keeping Willow in my prayers. Keep adding extra water to his food, too.

Piling on the vines for sweet Willow. I hope she isn't in pain and whatever it is you can get through it together. Big hugs :YMHUG:

Hi,

Have you talked to your vet about giving Willow diuretics to remove the fluids? I'm not sure, but they might also be able to remove fluids with a needle. Most likely Willow is having some problems with his liver. Are you giving him sub-qs right now?

Thanks Sienne, Tara, and MJ

Tina, he's on subq fluids. He actually didn't fight them today, which was a nice change. His belly also seems smaller. Vet named a bunch of possible causes but didn't discuss testing to find cause or discuss any ways of managing it. I'm aware that diuretics and removing some of the fluid are options in some cases, but this wasn't mentioned, possibly because he knows money is an issue, but I'm guessing also because the most likely causes for the free fluid are not really treatable.

More prayers and healing vines for Willow, and hugs for you. It's hard to think straight when hit with news like this. I pray you'll find a way through this and Willow will enjoy many more happy days with you. :YMHUG:

I'm sorry to read this news. I hope Willow will have more time left with you than you think. You never know, he has fought through a lot so maybe he isn't done yet.

I was wondering about diuretics too. My Sammy takes furosemide for his heart, but I don't know if it works the same way for the abdomen or not. It's not very expensive because the dose is so small, but again, I don't know if that is an option for you. Of course, like anything else, there are tradeoffs. Diuretics can be hard on the kidneys, so you have to balance what is most urgent.
