Morning just keeps getting better!

She has a new bff in my 17 year old Onyx, she has now decided that he MUST sleep with us! Which is fine by him but he isn't quite sure why the girl that has been growling and hissing at him for the last 6 months suddenly wants him to come to bed with Mom and then grooms him until her looks like he had a '50s slicked back hairdo

I have been looking at when she has been spiking and they seem to come in relationship to when she gets her ear drops. And I know that she does not like those drops in the least and they do contain a mild steroid so I'm thinking those might be contributing to her spikes. Just going to have to give her time to settle out a little more but i think we are pretty close to her ideal dose. However, if she wants to keep marching down that dosing scale who am I to stop her..lol

Wish she could have held that lovely amps but I think I have found the source of her spikes and high BGs today...I started looking into the ear drops she was given for the inflammation in her ears....So not good for a diabetic! In fact the info I found on them says that they should only be used in a diabetic cat as a last resort...so they are not going to be used! I just can't have her going from 120 this morning (forgot the drops last night) to 310 in two hours. Not now when we are finally making headway on her BGs.

The drops are Tresaderm and contain the steroid Dexmethasone which is doing nothing good for her, her bgs sky rocket, she acts like she has never eaten in her life and wants to hide in dark places like her head hurts. she goes from a sweet purry girl that wants to sun herself in the window to a crabby little thing that wants to spend her day under the bed...so mom is chucking the ear drops in the trash as long as her ears look as good as they do now I can't see putting her through the stress and the higher numbers. And the drops aren't even normally used for the problem she had which was a slight inflammation from the ear mites.

I just read your thread on Health as well. Great job correlating the two! Bye bye drops.....hope those numbers come down nice and gently and seeing those pretty blues and greens again. Honestly, I really can't believe just how great she's doing on Levemir. I never would have thought that such an immediate difference would be seen compared to how bouncy her numbers were on Lantus. Just amazing.

Yeah I'm hoping for her pretty numbers to return too! I'm still amazed at the difference in her on Lantus and on Levemir. With Maxwell I only had experience with Lantus and since I had always read that the two were similiar I really didn't think switching her from one L to the other was going to make much of a difference, boy was I wrong!

I had honestly not expected to see any difference in her numbers but thought since I had the Lev here I might as well give it a try to just rule it out before we went to the vet's where I had planned on asking her to be put on PZI since Lantus was so clearly not working for her. I'm sure glad I tried the Lev, except for this little hiccup with those stupid ear drops she has done beautiful on the Lev.
