Hi, Devon! Very exciting!
You test & if it is a green # you go on about your day & test again at preshot time & so on.
If you test & get a Blue #, feed & then test again in 3 hours to make sure Mocha's pancreas is bringing the #s down.
Sienne or Libby or Laurie will be by will the official OTJ rules.. but I wanted to stop by real quick before I head to work.

I don't remember if Libby posted the OTJ Trial instructions. If she did, I'm being redundant.

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Ok .. just a few more questions ...

I thought I should test early today, since she would still have shed action from last night, no?

And do I just continue feeding like normal? AMBG, +1, +2 and +3? Or do I change up her food schedule now?

Devon you want to feed small meals throughout the day. The reason you were feeding at the beginning of the cycle was to prevent the big drops which you don't have to worry about. :mrgreen:

It is up to you if you want to test more. Without any insulin today Mocha will be fine.

Go Mocha, go!! How exciting this is! Small meals throughout the day means, I believe, that you feed the amount you would normally feed, but spread it out over the whole day.

Ok, so she normally eats at amps, +1, +2 and +3 .. I already fed her amps and +1, if I fed at +4 and +8 would that be good?

I told peter not testing today until pmps is like cutting an alcoholic off cold turkey!

I think I might test at +4, just cause she did get a shot last night ..

Right?

Oh Devon....how are we going to get you to enjoy this. :lol:

You can give her a mini-meal at +2, +4 and +6 or +3, +6 and +9. However works best for you.

I remember when Baby was on her OTJ trial & for awhile after.. she would always look at me with body language & eyes that ready "Hey mom, aren't you forgetting something? A shot, BG check, SOMETHING?" I was like no Baby girl, you have healed! I am so excited for Mocha not to get tested, shot, etc. embrace the freedom & allow Mocha to enjoy it too ;-)

Well .. I really had to fight the urge to test earlier then +4 .. so much so that I left the house, and for those of you who don't know, I absolutely HATE driving, but I did it .. for mocha!

I gave in at +4 and found her surfing a beautiful 65!

I will feed her now at +4 and later at +6 .. then nothing till pmps .... right?

With Donovan I kept the routine much the same. I tested at the usual times and gave treats (and he'd be looking for them if I didn't). The only thing missing was the injection.

edit to add: I was at work all day, so typically didn't get any daytime BGs until after +8 except on weekends.

Do I see you camping this summer? Yes I do! :lol:

This is the most exciting thing. Yay!!! A richly deserved gum trial. When I did it with Boomer I just tested at AM and PM - I work all day so that's what I would have done. I bought him an autofeeder to space out the meals.

Merlin is howling in delight for Mocha.

Thanks everyone! Yes we are excited and nervous about mochas OTJ trial .. but she pleased us tonight with a nice 63! After that pmbg, I don't think we will test all night ... I imagine her shed action from last night must be gone by now, right?

By the way, just to put this out there in advance, if Mocha does throw you some blue at some point during the trial, you're not allowed to shoot it. Ok? If she shows you a blue, first you feed a small meal. Then test after 3 hours, and if that number isn't lower then test again after another hour. Then we watch to see if there is an upward trend over a couple of cycles, or anything that would indicate the trial isn't working. THEN if she is still high we'll talk about shooting.
