well I made a condo post but do not see it did I do it wrong??

Ok starting over hope i do better tomorrow with posting thanks for all your help :-D

+2 501 the constant high numbers are really creeping me out is this normal for lantus at first for him to stay high because its a depot insulin?? nailbite_smile nailbite_smile

Hi Lisa
Sometimes I find my posts disappear too. When you click submit you should see a pop up that says it was submitted. You might have to start over again, Sorry but it happens sometimes.

well his +6 was 456 so we are going up instead of down now I know this is day one of changing over from his high dose of N so will it take a while for him to adjust??

Hi there,
You don't have to test every 2 hours at these numbers, so you can get maybe a +9 and then PMPS. And yes, it's going to take several days for him to adjust. :) Read the sticky about the storage shed, it'll help you to understand why the numbers look so bad right now. It's perfectly normal.

Yes I have read the storage shed more then once guess I just do not completely understand it funny how you can be a vet tech for 16 yrs and things like this blow you away
will go bk and read again and will leave him alone for today until todays pmps confused_cat

I'm sure that you've been briefed on the lantus lingo and on the stickies already, but I'll point to them again just because.

Also, perhaps someone has already mentioned the hypo kit to you - just a name - pls make sure to have on hand (best to purchase when you don't need it) several cans of high carb (HC) cans identified with a 'shapie'. Easier to have them ready when they are not needed.

Also...one last thing.... patience.... patience. It will take a few days before the lantus dose settles. You will likely feel frustrated and it's perfectly normal. Maybe you can take this time to look around, visit people's condos and study their SS.

Thanks for the welcome yes I expected to see his numbers drop I think but I can see he will take a bit to adjust I have been on Lantus reading for I guess almost a month in hopes of my vets changing him over but intend to read everything over and over again and yes I will look at other condos I am sure that can help ;-)

Welcome Lisa!!

Are you familiar with any other depot drugs? Lantus is a depot drug -- we refer to it as forming a "shed" or a deposit in the body. The fact that Lantus is stored in this way is what allows there to be overlap between doses. For now, what it means is that a portion of every shot is going to build the "shed" so that Do Lou doesn't have use of the full dose of Lantus until the shed is completely built. It will probably take around 5 days, give or take. So, be patient.

FWIW, Gabby was initially prescribed N by the critical care unit where she was hospitalized. It didn't work well. My regular vet, who's a feline specialist commented that N is a much better insulin for dogs than cats! I hope Do Lou, and you, like Lantus a lot more than N.

No I am not familiar with depot drugs but I am learning and N sure was not working so I am hopeful Lantus will help we have to work on his diet as well he is still on too much dry but we are trying

He is 465 at +6 and is laying by water bowl and acting weird do I need to worry I am up with him confused_cat confused_cat
