I just called my Vet and asked for a refill for Daphne's insulin, and she wouldn't fill it because she wants a Fructosamine Test. Do we need that test if we are monitoring our kitties so closely?

Today, AMPS 148, +3 64, +8 70, PMPS 93, +3 65

Can you just take a printout of your spreadsheet? All the information she needs is right there.

Ideally, no you don't need a fructosamine if you have as much data as you have. That doesn't stop them from wanting the test. I'd actually ask the vet if you can e-mail her the link to Daphne's SS and then have her call you when she's looking at it. My favorite question is, "What will the fructosamine tell you that the SS won't?" If she tells you the fructosamine is an average (blah, blah, blah), let her know you'll be happy to average Daphne's numbers for the last 3 weeks and save your cat the stress of going to the vet.

OK, thanks Dyana and Sienne, thats pretty much what I thought, but wanted to hear it from my LL advisors. My DH said the same thing, it's an average over two weeks, so we can average it for her. I told them that on the phone and also said how hard it is on Daphne's heart and she's 17…., forget it, I'm changing vets for sure now. I have had it with this one. She loves to test, neighbors also have the same problem. When Daphne was first diagnosed, they wanted me to buy an $300.00 test meter kit from them!

And PS, THANK GOODNESS FOR LL!!! It's so sad the vets are taking advantage of people that don't know any better. My DH really is mad about the Vets diets... "food pushers"!

I love Cheryl's answer!

When I took Mr T to the vet for follow up which was supposed to include a fructosamine test, I took a copy of his SS. The vet looked at it and said, "Well, there's no need to do the fructosamine test." I didn't even have to say a word. :-D

I get so annoyed when Vet (or anyone) takes advantage of people. Its not the price of the test at all, I don't care, when it comes to any of my family, health comes first, but this just makes me so mad. I think I am going to print out the SS and walk it in the office... ;-)

BTW Mr. T is so beautiful. She looks a little like Daphne, but it looks like your Tinkles has blue eyes, so pretty!!

Let me know who you decide to try next!!! I think I've test driven just about all of them around here, and I think you have, too  !

I am astounded at a vet that would withhold insulin because of a fruc text! Especially whenyou have all that gorgeous data! If you do walk it there to her, dont forget to tell her you use a human glucometer or she will tell you that you are killing Daphne. Of course, then she' ll say you need the alpha trak!

Amy, I know. I have no idea. Did I tell you I called Dr. Woolley and asked her to still be Daphne's vet and she said she would, within reason. She doesn't have a lot of time she said, because she is so booked with spay and neutering visits. But I may call her tomorrow. I'm almost thinking of going back to Princeton… can't believe its so hard to find a good Vet!

I really do like Dr Ross at Princeton. I like her approach with Mario, his multiple health issues, his age, and my concern about his QOL. I don't know if I would see anyone else there. Of course, though, I do have a special knack: I find a vet I like, and she gets pregnant and quits practicing. It's happened several times now...no lie.

It really is virtually impossible to find a good vet these days...too many stories to go into!

I spoke to Dr Woolley one day last week about the semi-feral cat situation at DH's office. I liked her a lot...wish she did more than S/N! I'm sure that's where we'll take those cats when the time comes, and when we get everything together. She's doing good work, though, and maybe someday she'll expand beyond that.

Amy, did I tell you Dr. Woolley did two stray cats that my neighbor found in our neighborhood. My neighbor said she has a lovely farm house, and is very clean inside. She was happy with the results and the stray kitties are now living in their new home… the house I told you they built just for the strays, it has heat, windows, a carpet thing/tree. I asked, if I wanted a vacation, could live there some times

Thanks for the "review!" I feel pretty confident about her. I just wish I could find a home for the kittens, and for the one older kitten that got dumped at DH's work. I've exhuasted almost all of my resources with no luck  ...
