Got a flat blue cat today, so tonight could be interesting!!
Noticed late last night that China was pawing at the side of her mouth and when I got a chance to look, her left upper canine tooth was barely hanging on, and this morning, I found it in her food bowl! It looks like it broke off, not just fell out
She isn't letting me get a good look at it today, but the little glimpse I did get isn't pretty. It's red, inflamed and just plain looks painful
I know I need to get her to the vet, but her last dental cost me $500 and there's just no way I can come up with that much money right away so I don't know what I'm going to do. Last year for her dental I did a fundraiser, but that takes time and I feel awful knowing she has to be in pain NOW
She's still eating well, and doesn't act like it hurts, but we all know how well cats hide that kind of thing.
Feel just awful for her and like a lousy mamabean because I can't run her straight to the vet to get this fixed
I'm sorry for China. Hope it doesn't hurt too much. Don't feel awful for her, you do the best you can. Surely someone here can give you good advice to help her to feel better.
Chris,
I am sorry you feel awful, but you are NOT a lousy bean!
Since the bad tooth already came off, maybe having her mouth looked at and getting a/b and pain med won't cost that much?
I am so glad China is eating. That's very good. But I'd worry about infection....
Sending many healing vines to China and hugs to you.
Since it looks like it broke off, there's probably still a root that will have to come out is my concern and that would mean anesthesia...and if I'm going to put her under the risks of that, seems like I'd be better off just getting an entire dental done while she's out.
I know I had a few syringes of bupe left over, but I've looked everywhere for them and can't find them (which really irritates me since I know they're here somewhere!)
I'm so sorry China had a tooth break off. I would think at the very least she would need antibiotics. as Mariko mentioned.
At Max's last dental the two broken teeth just needed to be pulled but the other one with the huge cavity needed stitches. Unfortunately you are right that anesthesia would be needed so the full dental makes sense.
Oh no, poor China I think I have seen @Marje and Gracie mention some sort of emergency credit mob for unexpected vet bills, sorry I can't remember what they're called. Or maybe your vet will let you pay it off instead of having to cough it all up at once, it's definitely worth asking. I had a vet that let me pay off part of Vyktor's horrendous vet bills from a urinary blockage by delivering advertising pamphlets for him once.

sounds painful - but at least you know what's going on! I've heard people have good success with Care Credit - maybe your vet accepts that. I hope you can get something figured out.
Hi Chris. I hope China isn't having too much pain and that the medication helps if she has pain. It is so hard I know when money is tight and I hope it all works out for you money wise. I agree that if you are getting a tooth out you may as well get a dental done too.
Sorry to hear about the broken tooth. That would explain why was feeling a little off for food. I hope you can find a way to get her a dental. Sending vines for the interim.
I hope the bupe works, although it is a little old.
