I agree with your vet, that the dose of Prozinc should have been reduced to 0.5U. Thumbs up from me on that decision to reduce.:) It is what our prozinc dosing protocol would have advised you to do.

@SashaV , you did a good job helping Amanda, even if you have not been here long and felt a bit uncomfortable guiding Amanda with the possible hypo situation.
@Pookie , good job too on helping Amanda, here and over in the Prozinc forum.
You both were available to help when Amanda needed it, suggested that she start a new thread here in Feline Health where there are more people to help out, and that is what made the difference today.

Amanda, everyone here is only trying to help, the best we know how. Sometimes we get really scared and worried for you and your cat, when we see low BG numbers that are so close to hypoglycemia, and we panic a bit. So please be patient with us and our responses.

My best advice for you, when you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed out?
Deep breathing exercises. Deep breath, hold, release, deep breath, hold, release........................
It may sound silly or stupid, but it really does help to calm us down when we focus on our breathing. At least it works for me.;)

If at all possible, try to get a "before bed" BG test every evening cycle. It looks like Severino bounced from the lows today so that is why he is so high at the PM pre-shot test.
I realize you will probably see this reply too late to test this evening, but that "before bed" test is a good one to get on an ongoing basis.

p.s. If you ever have a question about what we have said, please ask. There can be nuances that are lost in translation, between your native language and ours. So please, never hesitate to ask for clarification. OK?

Amanda, inte honung. Diabetiker i Sverige har Druvsockerpulver Dextropur. Finns i vanliga mataffärena. Apotoket eller Veterinären har 10 ml plast medicinsprutor. Blanda snabbt med vatten enligt given ratio.

It's just a bit uncomfortable being new at this, and the only one online. I'm SO glad it didn't become the emergency I was afraid of, cause then I wouldn't have been able to help you. When I've been in your shoes...thanking is not my strong suit...I just panic, I leave my brain behind when I get a low :banghead::eek:

Hey Amanda, think of us as a second opinion. Free of charge.

We all have different levels of experience, and try to share that with people.
We all have different responsibilities in life, and we all make up a "team" of people to help other members.

Different schedules with some of us being in different time zones and some of us being available early or later in the day help to make this message board work.

Please, remember to take care of yourselves too. We want to keep hearing from all of you.

Amanda. It's A Medical Diabetic Praxis Both on Human and Animal Diabetics in Sweden to use druvsockerpulver. And Druvsockertsbletter for humans. Also, I always pack a small bag of Dextropur druvsockerpulver, the oral 10 ml medical plastic sprutorna, and a small bottle of water to mix it in, in a Medical Bag that comes along when going to the Blå Stjärna Animal Hospital, in case it goes into a hypo meanwhile. Better Safe than Sorry.

Där VAR Du & Severino i SLU Docentens Facebokgrupp! :) Jag såg och läste, även blodproverna. Hög lever Alt (Alat, som är en aminosyra som Mega B-vitaminerna är enzymkonverterare för), Högt Protein, Höga Vita Blodkroppar Esonefila, Högt Kalium, och så något mer Högt, samt Fructosaminet på över 600. Ett bra Fructosamin skall ligga under 350, se min Signatur. :)
Du är på rätt väg. Och tidigare erfarenhet med Sötnos Gammelkatten på 20 år :bighug:

Ja, precis!!! :D Vad fint att du tycker det!


Severino hade varit hos en veterinär sedan somras (jag bor i Hörby, Skåne). Jag frågade om vi skulle ta ett blodprov pga polydipsi...Jag fick fråga flera gånger, eftersom det här veterinär garanterade att det var jag som var paranoid ("Katten går upp i vikt, han är väldigt pigg, så det är inget fel på honom).


När vi fick resultat på blodprovet, veterinären meddelade mig att hen hade inte tillräckligt med resurser eller kunskap och att vi skulle hitta en annan veterinär. Då fick jag prata med flera veterinärer i hela Skåne + hela Sverige innan jag hittade gruppen.

Jag skickade hans blodprov till flera veterinärer (här i Skåne, men också med 2 betalda veterinär internet tjänster) och de gav helt olika diagnoser. Jag fick svar att han hade "Refeeding syndrome", "risk för komplikationer som arytmier", "njurinflammation", "Leversjukdom".
Det var en veterinär på First Vet som, efter att ha diskuterat vidare med flera kollegor, som nämnde diabetes. Hen remitterade jag till en klinik och vi bokade en tid för Severino hos en veterinär som sa att de hade möjlighet att vidare utreda honom.


Det var tisdag (vi fick blodprovsvar på måndag veckan efter blodprovet togs), och vi hade en bokade tid måndag efter. Alltså, 2 veckor efter blodprovet togs.


På onsdag ringer mig det här bokade veterinär och berättat att hen inte hade resurser för att vidare utreda Severino. Då började jag leta rekommendationer överallt!


Jag ringde Evidensia Djursjukhuset i Lund och de sa att jag skulle ta min katt till akut, lägga in han tills slutet av veckan. Jag blev förvirrad. Jag hade pratat med 20 veterinärer som hade tittade på hans blodprov; innan sa att det var så pass akut. Severino var pigg och glad i min sida och jag förstod inte varför jag skulle behöva ta honom till akuten.

Tills slut kontaktade jag Öresundskliniken i Lund https://www.veterinarkliniken.se/vara-kliniker/lund/. Veterinären tittade på blodprovet och sa att det var ok att vänta några timmar. Han sa till mig att det var en dålig idé att ta han till akuten; det var bäst att vänta på för att han hade rätt kunskap. Han sa att så passa akut var det inte, för att blodprovet hade tagits en vecka innan…


Sa vi har varit i kliniken sedan dess! Severino tog ett nytt blodprov och urinprovet första gången han var där. Det här gången fick Severino ta ett blodprov för EPI (pga diarré).

Han skulle egentligen ta nytt fruktosamin men veterinär bedömde att det inte behövds nu – baserat på glukostester vi hade gjort hemma, vikt ökning, att han slutat dricka mycket vatten, och att han blev betydligare piggare

----Summary of my Swedish answer in English ---

It was very hard to find the right veterinary for Severino. I have contacted many many veterinarians after he took his blood exam with high fructosamine and everyone denied to take him as his patient - due to lack of resources or knowledge.

In the end I found this clinic that is helping us. Severino was to do a fructosamine test last time we went to the vet, but based on the glucose measurings we did at home, and since he has gained weight, stopped drinking a lot of water and peeing a lot-and everywhere, and gained some weight. So he took an EPI test instead (he has diarrea; but actually it looks like his stools are gaining some form right now!).

Og jag er halvdansk paa rigtigt, Kontigent, men fra Slesvig-VestFyn.
I stort hele Familien bor der.
Saa det er Veldigt stresset i hele dette Covid-Aar,
at ikke naa at snakke med dem for det er väldigt travlt,
daa Sverige har valjt at utsatte os for at ha höjst Covid-döde og smitted, og meget andet.

Our Animal Hospital in Göteborg, that have existed since 1933, Blå Stjärnan, www.blastjarnan.se is a good one, it's also Region Animal Hospital, and it's been a part in the old Swedish country defense, with a Volunteer Section https://www.blastjarnan.se/om-oss/bli-medlem-i-stodforeningen were we are out on farms and stables and such. Or mostly home :)
