Hello!

I was advised to create this thread.

I got this 3.8 (68) reading one hour ago. Right now it´s higher 6.2 (112), after eating a considerable portion of low carb wet food with honey.

I am not sure if the insulin has reached its nadir, I made the first glucose curve yesterday.

@jt and trouble (GA) I thought about that as well so I did this test two times immediately, getting the same the later result (the first was slighly lower). When I did his glucose curve yesterday, he got the lowest around that time; so it makes sense.
you did good. Always retest at an unusual number . I would keep testing until you see a number of 90 or higher.

HI Mike no its not normal but that could be due to several factors What I would like you to do is start a thread . Go to the Health page and up in the right had corner there a "Strat new Thread" option click that and put your latest reading in the title with the word "help"

Hey!

Yes, took a reading twenty minutes ago, got 16.6.
It´s going up quite a lot actually. Could it be a bounce from being too low? Should I be worried that it´s getting up?
Well, you were fast with the honey :p
I would have preferred to wait with the honey, so you'd know what was happening. So if you haven't fed him any food for the last 2 hours he should be safe.
The solution isn't to treat a hypo so they go so high.

But yes, a low can show as a bounce and that could very well be why you've had high pre-shot tests. But we don't know without the tests during the cycles. So therefore, test test test away!

And usually we don't advice new owners to shoot below 200, if I remember correctly.
So he might get OTJ before you know it.

Not really. The advice is to give something for the cat to eat; if he doesn´t want to eat give honey (he didn´t! until I mixed honey into the food; than he got interested). Give extra food when the cat is normal again.

"Vid insulinkänning ges omedelbart något att äta. Om Sverino inte kan eller vill äta eller är medvetslös stryks
honung eller sirap på kindens insida. När Sverino piggnar till bör han/hon få ett extra mål mat. Om han/hon inte reagerar på
behandlingen bör du omedelbart kontakta veterinär!"

Cause we're talking a drop of honey
Like really almost nothing. So if you can mix it in, you've probably used more than a drop :p

Nooooooo. Never ever shoot twice.
How is his BG now?

But now you know for the next time :D
hehehe I didn´t think about shooting again, no! :-P

But no need to say "nooo!". I just had a question. There is so much information; I have read all of the files in here and got some information from my vets as well. A lot of the info is different and honestly I am quite overwhelmed. I haven´t been able to work much or to sleep much this later weeks since he got the diagnosis.

Seriously Amanda, getting this diagnosis is...really crappy hard. It's overwhelming, unfair, and it's the beginning of your new life.
You need to take it one step at a time, cause it's hard. Almost everything you thought you knew is upside down.
You just hang in there. We all know how hard it is, and that's exactly why we're here.
I went from being a night owl, never up before 12... now I'm up at 8 every single morning, I get up every night to test. Really, this turns our lives around. And that's a challenge in itself.
I hope you didn't take my "noooo" the wrong way. You're doing your best, and that's all we CAN do. Ask all your questions, no matter how silly you think they are. Huge hugs! :bighug:

And it does gets easier. It takes time, but it does. So hang in there <3

Well said Sasha.

Also Amanda, Vets generally only get a few hours of schooling when it comes to feline diabetes. They have so much to cram into so many years...as they treat so many different animals.

The folks here live diabetes 24/7/365. Theres a TON of practical learning and collaborating here. I'm NOT saying your vet doesnt know what they are talking about. What I'm saying is you can come here largely any time of day or night and get world practical help.

I learned about this disease along WITH my vet as she admitted she didnt know enough about feline diabetes. We learned together. Oh and she had a diabetic cat herself.;)

Hey Sasha!! I took the "noooo" as I am failing as an owner. My answer was a bit of a spontaneous "I am a really worried cat mamma right now, have I done something wrong? I am sorry about that, don´t roast me!" :-P

Thank you for your story. How long have you been awaking at 8 every day? Courage!

I called my vet office again and got the line busy, so I sent an e-mail. The nurse tried to call me right now when I was calling my partner (who is in Stockholm for work this week). She left me a message saying she will send me an e-mail now about Severino insuline dose!

@SashaV @jt and trouble (GA) was just contacted by the vet! 0,5 IE dose of Prozink, two times a day. Om seven days I will send the vets again a new glucose curve.

However easy its never going to be. And your journey might be a bit harder, but also shorter. He is on a tiny dose of insulin, he doesn't need MORE, but less. Look where I'm at, compared to you. I hope for you and him that this is going to be a short journey. Even if, and I do say if, but fingers crossed!!! he'll need some BG testing regularly. But you won't be bound by time, insulin, nadir, food and hypos.

You're DEFINITELY not failing! Some people think "hmm, then I just shoot again" and that could be fatal. You're treating him, you're learning, you're curious and you listen. You are doing your absolute best, and in my book you are a true hero! You are awesome, and you will learn as you go - exactly like everyone else around here.

Depending on his pmps I might go even lower. If you get a blue pmps, I'd shoot 0.25U. Thats just my opinion, and I'm a freaking chicken when it comes to dosing.

Aaaah you're using 40U syringes.
All good, I think.
Most of us use 100U syringes and convert the dose. Hence the conversion chart on my ss :p

That's what we do :bighug:
But you're not failing. Never ever think that. You're doing awesome :bighug::D
