Good Morning,
Loki's AMPS this morning was 276 and I messed up really bad, for some reason I gave him 1.5 units. ohmygod_smile Good thing I am home all day with all the snow we have so I can check him as often as he needs. I hope he does not go down to much, he ate and will check him in 2 hrs.
Feel free to let loose on me. I have been calling myself all kinds of names anyway. How could I be that dumb at this point in the game?
If you guys think I need to check him earlier please let me know. I have Karo syrup if needed ...

Darn. No, it is easy to get mixed up. Maybe a sheet on the refrig with the doses and numbers you are currently working with?

But Michelle, you do seem to do this when I won't be around. I'll be out of town today. I asked Rob to check on newbies on Health so maybe she can look in on you too. You know what to do. First, breathe. Then have some higher carb food handy. If he gets down in the 50s, a little bit of higher carb (so he will be willing to eat more for you later). Test in 20 minutes. Little more high carb if he isn't moving up some. If it is continuing down pretty fast, then syrup on the gums. Test every 20 minutes till he is up for 3 tests. If he stays above 50 but in the 60-80 range, just give him a little extra low carb to keep him there.

Post on Health if no answer here.

We were thinking 1.25 above 250 so maybe it will be fine.

I don't think this is a problem. A +2 test would be fine.

At +6 he is at 47 it's his feeding time anyway so will recheck him at +12 which is 4 hrs from now for me.
or do you think I should recheck him sooner?

Yes, 47 is when you need to feed and retest in 20 minutes to make sure he is going up.

He doesn't have alot more room to drop before it becomes dangerous to him.

Holy smokes:-)
I was sort of hoping to see a nice green number. This is great! But Robin's right. You can't assume nadir at exactly six hours, so you want to test him within 30 minutes after feeding. I'll be watching for any updates.

Very good! And nice that you got to play in the snow..... I miss snow.

How much did he eat? Was it just his normal low carb food?

Carl

Hi, Carl feel free to come and shovel :-D It's still snowing up here at the rate of 1/2 inch a hr now. It has slowed down. Anyhow Loki had 3.0 oz of FF low carb. He ate the whole can. He gets the same amount 3 to 4 times a day and he usually eats all.

I would keep testing periodically to make sure he's staying above 50, that will also tell you when he starts back up and if he is going to zoom into a bounce, all good info to have.

My dog looooves the snow, I on the other hand am tired of it and want it to go away.

Okay, good. It's nice when they respond to low carb and you don't have to mess with all that gravy and karo junk.

If you want to get a +8 test, it'll show that he's still level or rising, and not falling back down. But this looks good at this point. If you test at +8, and see a number that's higher, then you should be good till PMPS.

Carl

And I would gladly come to help you shovel.....except I've just finished putting away all my "winter clothes" and ready to break out the shorts. Another month, and I'll be working on my tan.

I grew up in a small town in central Massachusetts, and back then, snow was just fun. I left at 19, so I never really had to deal with the bad part of winter, like shoveling my way out of the driveway in order to drive on hazardous roads to go to work. The worst thing that could happen was a snow day! Darn, I can't go to school???? lol.

I've seen snow stick to the roads once here in 35 years. Christmas of '89 we had 6". It was all melted before New Year's, but it was the best Christmas ever! My daughter was three years old and it was her only white Christmas (other than the few times we visited my folks for the Holidays) until she moved to Missouri a couple years ago.

Just checked Loki again and at +8 he is at 196. Carl I am in CT near the RI border and today we got 18 inches of new snow, the last storm last week we had 29. I do not mind it as we have a generator and are prepared. As luck would have it my hubby and son are in Vermont skiing and guess what they got no snow haha_smiley had to ski on man made stuff
Ok will check back at his +12 I think he is going to be ok from my big boo boo this morning.
Thanks all for hanging around with me today.

This morning wasn't a big boo boo, Michelle. It was a learning experiment. ;-) You now know that 1.5u was just a tad too much on a preshot number of 276. And you've reminded everyone about the importance of a "nadir" test. The 49 wasn't dangerously low. It might have gone lower had you not caught it and fed him when you did. But, it's great data to have.

My parents still live in my home town (Grafton MA). Maybe I should call them...to make sure my 2 brothers-in-law had no problem shoveling out their 100-yard long driveway as soon as they got off work today! Or maybe I'll just go out to the beach and watch the dolphins swim by.

Carl

Ok here is the +12 293 gave 1 unit.
Oh and Carl I wish we had a sticking your tongue out smilie haha_smiley
Just finished snowing so out I go again to do the walkways and dog kennel. I want my flip flops and the weather to go with it.
Just noticed no pink today, small victory I know but still good I feel. ;-)
