Hi all, tough day yesterday for me emotionally with Tweetys dip and no specific direction yet from our vet. I decided to lower to 1.25u but certainly could have stayed put depending on TR vs SLGS. So be it though.

**VET Just Email REPLIED: She would NOT have reduced her dose. So I'm going back to 1.5u tonight. I do want to talk with her. I asked for a phone call to discuss details and if then she wants me doing TR Or what to do. I think her ideals are wanting Tweety between 70-250 max. But she feels big midday dips are not scary. So she said she'd not reduce and didn't get my email until this morning. Bummer. I'll let you know and change SS and signature accordingly of need be. **

Bummed out to see Tweetys numbers so high. I was afraid she got a fur shot last night. I don't recall her going higher after a dose like that.

Hubby has to give evening shots Friday to Subday for the next month. Hopefully that'll go smoothly. I added the lights to the magnifying glass for measuring the dose!

Anyway, waiting for capsules of the antibiotic. Hopefully today. I appreciate everyone's support so much. I'd have been a real lunatic of not for @Bandit's Mom being available yesterday when we hit 53. Thank you again.

Bummed out to see Tweetys numbers so high. I was afraid she got a fur shot last night. I don't recall her going higher after a dose like that.

Hi Teya, Tweety is bouncing from those lows yesterday. And if you gave a fur shot, this less insulin, she would bounce. So this is normal.

Thank you, I was comparing to other times we reduced insulin from a big dip and she didn't seem to get this high. So could have been a poorly timed fur shot. Thanks so much and safe surfing to you as well.

Hi Teya. Many of us here have stopped asking our vets for dosing guidance, and follow one of the protocols from here instead. Your vet won't be there at all times of the day or night to follow your cat's glycemia, as members here are.
I was like you at first, following what my vet said, but the day Bella went into hypo I realised how dangerous that was. She was at 31. The vet told me to retest her "in an hour or so". Maybe 15 minutes later she was acting very strangely and I retested her and she was at 29. I did what Bhooma told me to, whoch was to give her honey, feed her, re-test in 15mn, etc. And then that night I gave her her insulin because I was still following what my vet was saying, but I stopped the next day. I would just give her the curves for a few more weeks and then eventually just said that "I got it" and was adjusting her dose following a protocol, that I explained to her but she said she thought 50-80 was dangerously low. I like her a lot and we agreed to disagree on that, and she was seeing how well Bella was balanced anyway.
All that to say, you are allowed to do whatever you want with your cat, you do not have to go back to 1.5 if you think 1.25 is better. You are the one who will have to deal with a hypo in the middle of the night if that happens, not your vet

Hi Cecile, I have to say I am really wondering what to do here. If I was following TR she would stay at 1.5u - which is what my vet wants to do. BUT if I had not been home? She would for sure have been lower than 53. No doubt as even with food given to her twice - she still kept getting lower. So I kind of feel like it is not a safe dose if she can drop that low. As I cannot be home 24/7... and knowing at 1.5 Tweety can easily randomly drop to 53 OR less if not one is home to intervene is scary as heck.

I am going to get quiet and make a decision; my brain has been very loud with fear and anxiety - especially since we are waiting for her meds to be made again for this UTI. Looks like it will not even be today. Perhaps her vet who I really do like and trust will agree to TR or SLGS and that way "everyone is on the same page" so to speak. I really do not know what to do. Both methods require changing doses often - which she does not believe in. Her kitty who was diabetic lived to be 24 and she had a pretty steady dose for him. So I do trust her - it is not about that. What I do not trust are all these wild curves and turns FD seems to take. I really thought we had a perfect dose at 1.5 she was doing so darn well. I know I am rambling. Thanks for bearing with me. I will gather all info and make a decision from the heart soon. I agree this board is able to help in ways the vet cannot... it is not realistic to think she could be available that much. Thank you again for the reminders and sharing your history and story.

I think it’s fine if your vet is not convinced. Ultimately, she will just ask how your cat is doing and give you a script for Lantus. She won’t keep telling you the dose and asking for curves. My vet thought prescription food and 3 units were the solution for most cats. That food had over 20% carbs in it, and all she can answer is that well, it works well for most cats. But I don’t want the same thing she does. She’s happy between 150 and 200, I want Bella to be in normal values.
It’s great if you can convince her. Give me her name and address if you do, I’ll switch
