Simon was slightly down this morning but still not where he should be. I'm calling the vet today to get his opinion and also ask about fluids since his bloodwork showed that Simon was a little dehydrated. I'll also ask about the other more specific lipase bloodwork. I am also waiting to hear back about the urinalysis to see if there might be a UTI. I was able to check Simon's urine today and no ketones were noted.

Simon seems ok this morning -- purring, cleaning himself, peeing, and pooping. Not alot of playing yet but he seems pretty alert. I have to go to work and I hate leaving him but will check back at lunch and will hopefully be able to bring him in later today to the vet.

I was waiting for you to post to see what Simon's numbers were this morning. I tried to google this last night but fell asleep reading about it ohmygod_smile I'll be watching to see what the vet says about it. A urinalysis is never a bad idea. The accurate pancreatitis test is a good idea too.

Good morning guys ... I know Simon is not down where you want him to be, but at least he is purring and preening .. still feeling ok obviously .. hope you get the tests you want done, done .. have a great day guys!

I hope you hear something from the vet today. You should fast Simon for the fPLI for most accurate results and it takes a few days to get the results back. Hope he feels better and you start seeing more Simon-like numbers soon.

I am bringing Simon to the vet late this afternoon to do the FPL blood work (I think that is what it is called). I still don't know the results of the urinalysis but that should be back tomorrow.

Question: How many hours should Simon fast before the test? His appointment is at 5:30 PM and he usually gets fed at 12:00 and 2:00. I need to run home and take the food out of the automatic feeder if he isn't supposed to get the food.

How many hours does Simon need to fast before the fpl bloodwork? Can I feed him at 12:00 if his appointment is at 5:30?

Hi Georgia. Sorry that they are suspecting Pancreatitis for Simon. Poor kitties feel so miserable when they have a flare. Tori has had CP now for a couple of years with acute flares from time to time.

To answer your question about fasting Tori has had the fPL1 test done several times and it has not been done fasting. Mind you each time she had it she was pretty much off her food anyway. I don't know if this was the ideal way to do it or not. Sorry I may have confused things even more. Why don't you call the vets office and ask or look up the test on Idexx website?

Good choice. Make sure he continues to eat well afterwards though - don't want that liver having a hiccup.

Although I probably shouldn't have given anything like I said in my previous note, I went ahead and gave Simon a small tsp. (very small) of food because I didn't want him getting upset and throwing up (which he has a tendency to do). Thanks for everyone's help.

Sorry, Gerogia, I was working. It is recommended that it be a 12-hour fast which is tough to do with our kitties so I'd fast him as long as possible. I did have an fPLI done on Gracie without fasting and the results came back rather high; then we were told she should have fasted; redid the test fasting and it was WNL; this was before she was FD.

Just got back from the vet with Simon. What a long day! Work was extra stressful and then I had to sit in Atlanta traffic with Simon. What should have been a 20 minute ride turned into over an hour.

Anyway, to get back to the important person -- Simon. The vet did the fLP1 blood work but I won't know the results until probably Thurs. or Friday. I don't have the results from the urine culture although the lab said they are growing it a little longer because it may be suspicious. Suspicious for what, I don't know and it didn't say on the lab report. The vet also looked again at Simon's mouth and said he definitely needs a dental but did not see any abscess that might be causing the high bg results. He may also be experiencing some pain if in fact he does have pancreatitis. The vet went ahead and gave me some bupe to give Simon for 3 days to see what happens with his bg. If the numbers decrease, that might mean Simon has been having some pain but of course, I can't really tell with Simon. He has been chewing his food a little slower but still eating as much as always.

His PMPS was 277 which is lower than I expected since I tested him immediately after I got back from the vet. We'll see what happens tonight and tomorrow. Keeping our fingers and paws crossed that things turn around.

Hi guys. I am glad that you took Simon in. I hope all checks out OK, or at least they can find a cause for his higher numbers. I hope things turn around for him soon. Hang in there, and try not to worry. :-D

Hope you guys get good results on the all the tests and a clear path on how to proceed. Fingers and paws crossed that Simon's #s come down soon!!

Paws crossed on negative fPLI. Hope they find out the reason for the increased BGs.
