3/7 Minnie PMPS 361, +2.75 352, +10 303

I can't quite believe all the yellow and blue finally :).

Now we are out of red/black zone I have started reading other posts about renal threshold so I will get some diastix to try and figure that out for her. I'm thinking of starting to make some adjustments to her food, give her more lower carb (it's mostly 5% DM pate) and see what that does to her numbers...though I may wait a bit. Her ears need a break and I could do with some recovery from the rollercoaster.

Thanks AGAIN

She was STARVING at PMPS, thank goodness we didn't need to stall from the feeding perspective. Haven't seen her this hungry in a while. Giving her plenty of the 3% and lots of water mixed in, she's not drinking water again (yet).

Gave her poor battered ears a rest so don't know what went on this afternoon. Ketones this morning were 0.4 on Novamax (no change since 3/3, was 0.3 on 3/1)

Novamax read 0.5 ketones tonight up from 0.4 this morning. She is not thirsty like she was before, when she would drink water, so I'm giving snacks swimming in water. Getting concerned but not sure what I can do about it. On the plus side looks like don't need lots of testing tonight - good thing too, she hissed at me for the first time when I poked her ear. Read about calendula instead of neosporin, will pick up some tomorrow.

Good morning, Elizabeth. I know that my Darcy will not drink as much water when his numbers are lower (in the yellows). Otherwise he drinks lots all the time. In fact, I can usually tell if he’s really high by how much water he drinks. Maybe this is what’s going on with Minnie, since she’s been in the yellows? But what you are doing giving her lots of water with her food/snacks is great for her! It’s so good to see those yellows! Tell me about your other kitty Sam.

so sorry to hear that Minnie isn't happy abt the testing, hope it will pass as soon as possible

I think as well that you are doing very well for adding water to food to keep him hydrated. If you give her wet food and before she would eat dry, i think it is normal, you have to count the moist in the food to their water intake as well. Chico as well doesn't touch the water bowl since we switched to wet food. We started adding water to his wet food as well just to make sure he stays hydrated though :)

It's a bit chicken and egg (ooh, time to buy some more Tiki After Dark - she was funny with the quail egg!). They were always on wet but she's spent most of the last year going to drink water so I had bowls everywhere, and if I saw her lick her lips I put the bowl right in front of her and she'd drink. Only added more to food when I learned that tip here, as a DKA avoidance tactic. Then as her numbers decreased, definitely her drinking and peeing decreased and was happy about that...just concerned the last day or two as her numbers are heading pink again, she is ravenous again but not drinking and ketones creeping up. The good side of knowing the numbers is you can take action, the down side is when you take action and don't see progress as fast as you'd like!

And Suzanne....Sam is Minnie's litter mate, at least that's what they said when I got them at the shelter. They take it in turns to bully each other but I wish they would cuddle up. Best we can manage is having me as a barrier on the sofa, purring cat on each side demanding to be brushed. He is benefiting from Minnie's dining regime but gets SO jealous! And such a troublemaker - - we will go somewhere he shouldn't, call to get my attention and then stare at me as if to say "yeah, what are you going to do about it?" He's the plastic-bag licker too, at feeding time usually. :)

And...time to poke my baby's ear again...

Oh yes. Darcy LOVES the chicken with quail eggs. Unfortunately, I found out they are a bit higher in phosphorus than I would like... so now he will get them a lot less frequently.

Do Minnie and Sam look alike?
