stayed up last night and when i got a +2 of 149, i was afraid by nadir larry might be hypo. maybe thats way off, but i was worried. attempted another test at +4 but so exhausted couldnt function so i got panicky and gave him some treats in case he was low or going to be. then got +5 of 420 so i may have spiked that. if not, is he bouncing? or even if so?
i certainly did myself in. can barely function today, after being awake so much. hopefully the data will help. :)
plz tell me for next time, is 149 scary at only +2? he was sound asleep. i woke him up and he wasnt happy.
and maybe he nadirs early?? bc he always seems higher at 6 or 7 than 2 or 3, i think.

Re: 3/7 larry AMPS 430

Wow! Good job on the testing last night! :thumbup From his +5 being so much higher, I'm thinking he just had a super early nadir. I highly doubt treats alone could have brought the numbers up that high. ;-)

Doesn't it feel good that you're starting to see more blues? That's how it starts, you know. You see more and more blues and then eventually a few greens and before you know it, Larry starts showing off his swimming skills and his green thumb. Keep up the good work. :YMHUG:

Re: 3/7 larry AMPS 430

kay, dont u think it seems his nadir is at 2 or 3? he doesnt fit that typical lantus pattern at ALL. i keep a copy of it up. is this really unusual? is there a reason why he would be so early?
today abt 1 hr after his shot, he was sleeping great!!! like out! good relaxing sleep. i hvnt seen this since his dx.
he scared me last night hiding in the closet, and i drug him out of a sound sleep to test. hes also backwards frm most cats i guess. usually hes more awake during the day and sleeps at night, like a person.
i appreciate any answers to my questions, or comment frm any1. thx.

Re: 3/7 larry AMPS 430

Larry obviously has not read the Lantus Rulebook about having a nadir around +5-7. Half the time, Mikey doesn't either. He'll nadir at his next shot time sometimes! ohmygod_smile There are enough kitties out there who are like Mikey and Larry that now you know why we're always saying ECID (Every Cat Is Different).

There was a really great explanation someone gave me about Lantus when I was wondering how sometimes Mikey can have a "double-nadir" where he nadirs around +2 and then sometimes nadirs again later in the cycle. Most people see it work in a cyclical fashion, i.e. the "typical" Lantus cycle with that +5-7 nadir, but in reality, it works more in a 3-day cycle where the previous doses can affect the future cycle. In Mikey's case, his nadir seems to start off around +5-7, but over the course of about a week, it moves later and later until eventually, he has a day where his nadir is at +14 during the same cycle that he has a nadir at +8, for example. It can sometimes get really confusing. @-) But what it really boils down to is: "Know thy cat," which is exactly what you're doing with the testing and discovering that he seems to drop around +2.

Re: 3/7 larry AMPS 430

ok, i dont think i understood half of that :( @-) :YMSIGH:
thanks tho.
in the future, do i need to panic? if hes at 140 at only +2? or we dont know? i was afraid he would keep dropping, if he had, it seemed he would be hypo by +6. if thats not his pattern, i guess i dont need to worry. u see why i was concerned tho? at 4 hrs. to go...so i thot.....it could have been bad.

Re: 3/7 larry AMPS 430

Personally, if Mikey gave me a 140 at +2, I'd test again at +3 and see if it'd gone up. If it remained the same, I'd test again around +5-6. If it had gone down even more by +3, I would have grabbed a +4. If there was no way I could stay awake or be around, I'd either make sure I was home around his nadir (i.e. drive home on my lunch from work) or I'd set an alarm to wake myself up. Worst case scenario, I'd leave some medium carb food out for him if I was really really really worried.

On the other hand, we've been at this so long that I know he is really great at maintaining his numbers and doesn't (usually) drop under 50 regardless of when his numbers go down. Sometimes, he goes on "green streaks" where he'll be green at pre-shot and then just maintain green through his entire cycle, never dropping low or spiking up. It definitely makes me nervous nailbite_smile because there's little room for him to go down further, but one of the benefits of Lantus is that once you're at the right dose, they (usually) won't go down into hypo no matter how low their pre-shot is.

Re: 3/7 larry AMPS 430

Kay gives some good information here. I just want to add that you really want to strive for a flat cycle. Like I know that Alska's cycle is pretty flat so a 140 would not have concerned me at +2. But every cat is different and you did a great of job of getting in those extra late night checks. You study his numbers and his over physical self and can get a knowing sense of if he is going to drop or stay level.

Good job Pam.

hi robin. what do u mean strive for a flatter cycle? like instead of him bouncing or w/e it is?
