Good Morning all!

I through caution to the wind this morning and shot on schedule this morning despite the 101. Every time she's been this low on a PS, she's risen steadily afterwards. Last night she was 113 and was 193 by +4. That may not be happening this morning as she's 68 at +1. In any case, I'm home all day with her, and I wanted to push things a little since my goal is remission. She's young(3-5), normal weight, is steroid induced, and started insulin within weeks of onset. I've looked at a number of the OTJ spreadsheets and a lot of folks got them there rather quickly, and I want to be one of them.

Hopefully she surfs today like yesterday, but just in case, I have everything I need to get her through things. I'll be back for updates and help as necessary.

Jason: Your Gracie's situation is the same as mine; 4 years old, steroid induced, we got on it right away..within a couple weeks of symptoms and we watch her closely so we caught them early. We've also been pushing it. I hope you reach that OTJ goal soon; Jill told me that usually steroid-induced cats have a better chance of staying OTJ if they get there.

I hope you and I can achieve that as soon as possible. I caught her diabetes within 3 weeks of her steroid shot, but delayed insulin two weeks in hope that a food change and time would reverse it. That didn't work, so I'm kicking myself for the delay. I had another steroid induced diabetic, but she remained on pred because of other issues, so remission was never a goal, and low numbers were only a dream. This is new to me, and scary, but it's better than putting her through testing and shots for the rest of her, hopefully, very long life.

I'm glad you caught it so quickly. Gracie was on pred for several months...very low dose...for a chronic bladder issue. No problems with her BG. Then she came off the pred for several months and then had to go back on but her BG spiked but only for a very short time. We immediately took her off the pred and got everything back under control. Then she got conjunctivitis and they put her on topical eye ointment w/steroids because our vet did not think the topical steroids wouldn't affect her.....oh well...that's what put her over the top evidently.

Gracie is my second steroid induced cat, and I will avoid them unless absolutely necessary. Belle was on a high dose for IBD, and she developed diabetes after about 4 months. Gracie got one Depo shot for allergies/sneezing/runny eye and that's all it took. It's scary to think that one shot could do it. Because it was a shot though, I was able to know exactly when it started, and because I experienced all the symptoms with Belle, I recognized it immediately. I never wanted to become an expert on feline diabetes, but two cats in, I know more than most vets. Who by the way, seem shockingly uninformed about diabetes in general.
