Today is the day I've sorta been hoping for...by that I mean OTJ wasn't the main priority in the dance, getting and keeping Mr. Spot happy and healthy was, and if OTJ came to be, well, that was a welcome bonus step. But omg...it feels wierd typing Spot and OTJ in the post titile, lolol.
It felt funny, not getting the syringe ready and shooting him this morning. However, I did go through the motions..after he ate, he got his little treat, got some lovins, and then got his skin tented...everything but the shooting part. Thinking that maybe if I did this, he may trick his Mr. P into thinking there was some insulin on board...Yea, I know silly :-D

Well, gonna go visit some condos while I can...the children are still sleeping, except for my nephew, and he's engrossed in the morning cartoons and is being very quiet! Have a wonderful Sunday LL!!

Re: 3/7 Deb's Spot AMBG ~ 85 .....OTJ trial day 1

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Spot even cooperated with a nice green number this morning.

In case you need them (I know you've seen this 110 times but may not have thought you would need them!) I'm pasting my OTJ trial instructions here. The most important one is DON'T SHOOT! Even if you see a number you don't like. It's really hard, I know.

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If he is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck!

Re: 3/7 Deb's Spot AMBG ~ 85 .....OTJ trial day 1

Beautiful Day 1 for Spot!!! Very nice!!!!
I used to wave the syringe over Raja's back after showing it to her...oh, the silly things we do, huh?
Hey, wanted to be sure to invite Spot to the St. Patrick's Day party on the 17th...some of the kitties are going to be wearing their green BGs, but it is not a requirement if that isn't doable...probably Spot will be in the prettiest shade of green that day...
Please say that he isn't busy and that he can come to parade with all the kitties...k?
(Raja is already decorating!! She is just too much!!)
Hope you have a great day today!!

Re: 3/7 Deb's Spot AMBG ~ 85 .....OTJ trial day 1

Thanks you guys and Thanks, Libby (Lucy) for your instructions. Actually this is the first time I've read the OTJ information. I just never thought it would happen to us, so I never read them. You know, this not testing thing is going to be very hard! I have a 2 meal feeder, so the small meals thing won't be to hard, just got to make sure that Spot gets the yummy's and not the civvies!

Re: 3/7 Deb's Spot AMBG ~ 85 .....OTJ trial day 1

Such great news! It really should be called the Fingernail Loss Period. Wishing you the best of luck with the trial!

Re: 3/7 Deb's Spot AMBG ~ 85 .....OTJ trial day 1

Congratulations on DAY ONE :RAHCAT

Keep up the good work, Spot! Keep mamabean fromm biting all her finger nails or she won't be able to give proper scritches.

Re: 3/7 Deb's Spot AMBG ~ 85 / PMBG ~ 114

Not to bad for 24 hrs. w/o insulin! Since I got a blue pmbg, I gave a bit of food and will retest in three hrs to see how he is.
Spot spent the afternoon lounging outside on his chair...he's verra happy that the weather has a nice break in it...sun was shining and bean could go outside w/only sweatshirt on to clean up drooler's bathroom area.
Curious...has anyone else's OTJ kitties experience the mad munchies during the trial? Spot seems to be an empty pit....is crying for food all the time. I fed him his dinner, and after he was done, he was scrounging around the civvies dishes looking for scraps....something Spot does not ever do (over turn the trash can and attack the drooler's jerky treats, yes, scrounging civvie's dishes, no).

Re: 3/7 Deb's Spot AMBG ~ 85 .....OTJ trial day 1

I am soo excited for you to be OTJ!!!!!! I know it is the trial but how exciting :) yay Little Spot!!!! xoxo Luvs from Bayley

A nice little drop down for Mr. Spot!! I was so excited to see this number! Looks like we may really have a Mr. P on patrol now, doesn't it!!
Spot must have known he was to get tested three hours after his dinner because he came waltzing out from the bedroom where he was taking a nice after dinner snooze at exactly 9:00 p.m. He is now waiting for his nini snack in an hour from now. I have his timed feeder set to go off at 1:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. so he should be good tonight.
