3/7 CYRSTAL - +6 = 95! first Green - but ended up a PJ party

Sleep well Wendy, and hope you don't miss that extra hour too much. I have a very woolly head this morning, Crystal's outside lying in the sun without a care in the world, typical cat. Catch up later.

What an adventure Crystal is taking you on right now! Those first few lows are quite unnerving. Eventually you'll become more comfortable shooting greens. The first few times will be scary. FWIW, and I think Wendy does this too, with an acrocat, they don't necessarily have to drop below 50 to earn a reduction. Crystal, like Cobb, has a very large depot. I started giving him reductions whenever he dropped below 70. If I didn't, his depot would get ahead of me and I'd spend hours trying to pull him up or days agonizing about how much insulin to give him. We ended up doing the reduced doses after a drop, unless it was a low drop and then we skipped. And when you're shooting low, you do have to be around to test.

I agree skipped is best. Drain the depot a little bit and then start again either with a half dose or a reduced dose of 42.

Great job last night. Get some rest!

Wow, Crystal is really taking you on a ride. So glad to see that she is hitting some GREEN, but I also know how stressful that must be to be shooting a large dose and not knowing which way to go. I hope this is the sign that Crystal has turned a corner and she will start earning some reductions.

Hi Suzanne, yes she certainly likes to be the centre of attention at the moment. I just never expected those type of figures so soon and as you say, they are a bit unnerving to say the least. I'm going to stick with a half dose tonight of 22u and then skip tomorrow morning altogether and resume the new reduced dose of 42 tomorrow night. Didn't get a chance to get out and look for some more strips as some friends popped in unannounced and by time they left, the pharmacy would be closed (if it was open in the first place!). Anyway, I have 7 strips left which will just coast me home until DH can get some after he has dropped me off tomorrow morning at the hospital. The way I feel at the moment I wont need any anaesthetic, they will have a job keeping me awake. Just recorded a 212 at +6.5 and her next test will be at PMPS so I might have an afternoon nap now, although the sun is shining and it's very warm outside, too nice to be under the duvet but needs must. I'll post again after her PMPS.

Thanks Tina, we learned a lot from our first PJ party but it was scary. Luckily the patron saint of acrokitties (AKA Wendy) was on hand to calm things down and steer us to calmer waters.

You did Great!!

Remember to add more water to Crystal's food since you're giving the Miralax substitute. This product pulls water from other areas of the body into the intestinal track so it's important to make sure Crystal has enough water in her diet.

Hi Sienne, yes I'm adding plenty of water to her raw mix, it's more like a soupy consistency, plus squash, plus olive oil but she doesn't seem so keen on it this morning having tasted the forbidden tasty HC stuff last night!

I'm feeling a little misty eyed over Crystal's break through :joyful: so many congratulations - it's kind of good that it's scary because the adrenalin keeps you awake ;) I'm glad Saint Wendy was on hand to help you through your first time :) how exciting :D:D:D

ETA: oops, in my excitement I forgot I was signed in as my mum - it's Vyktor's Mum (Serryn) here

Just checking in, my head has been exploding as I'm on a new medicine and my body has a steep learning curve! Sorry I missed the slumber party - but glad you had some experienced eyes on you & Crystal.

She is looking GREAT! Green - wow! I'm sure I've said before, I could either reduce or delay. Doing both took a longer recovery time. And a skip at that high of a dose takes an even long recovery time. Following up, I think I would do a 75% dose instead of 50%, then drop back as you suggested. She's going to start liking these new numbers, though you may still see some bouncing, but that surf was AWESOME!!!

And BTW, when you do skip, your time keeps running (+13, +16 etc), as it's the number of hours since the last shot.

Keep it up!!! REALLY GREAT JOB!!!

Serryn and BJ, thank you so much for your best wishes, was very exciting times last night, i don't think I've got my balance yet on this green surfboard! I feel a lot more human now, having had a nap this afternoon and our first BBQ of the season in this beautiful weather. Crystal was showing interest in the proceedings and I know I shouldn't have, but I gave her just a morsel of home made beefburger which she loved, she has been so patient and co-operative, bless her.
Lu-Ann, hope you are soon feeling better on your new meds, bit of a bummer getting your body to adjust. I can see your thinking behind the 75% dose so i'll go with that, which equals, if my maths is right 31.5 (using 42u as the new base). I will still miss tomorrow morning and then revert back to 42u tomorrow night. Thanks for pointing out the + doses, it does get a bit confusing otherwise. I'll be shooting in 30 minutes and will update her SS then, have to be a bit frugal with the strips until I can replenish tomorrow.

+24 is 355. Crystal is just tucking into her normal chicken mix, with just a little tuna topping to make it a bit more interesting before her shot.

Just wanted to thank everyone who has been visiting over the past 24 hours for your words of encouragement and kindness, no doubt this isn't the end of the Crystal saga so watch this space for the next instalment! Enjoy the rest of your hopefully relaxing Sunday and vines to all kitties in need and their beans.

Wow, you've had quite a night. I'm so glad Wendy was there to help you - i think you're on the right track. When you're home from the hospital i think it's important that you play around with the dose so that you get to a point you can shoot the same amount twice a day. Until you're past your hospital stay, though, just go with your gut and the what the numbers tell you.

Have a restful evening! You've done well!

Only one slumber party per weekend, Crystal! :)

So you'll miss the am shot... think of it like a fur shot. But I agree, you'll want to drop back a little tomorrow night, (and be able to rest & not worry) and then start the "fine-tuning" once you're back in the saddle. And don't worry about drawing up 31.5 ... I would just pull 30u and call it good. The 50-75% reduced dose isn't something that needs to be precise. It's only a matter of keeping something in her system to keep her from being on the moon later.

I'm so glad you're seeing improved numbers. I really didn't want to exceed 50u - and have to use either 2 syringes or go to something bigger than a 50u syringe! YIKES! And I didn't, (thankfully!) as we started seeing a breakthrough in his resistance at that point. From the looks of your numbers, I'd say you're close if not AT that point as well. Yeah!!!

Lu-Ann, I know exactly what you mean, 50 was the figure I had in mind as "I can't possibly go higher" number. I did manage the 31.5u tonight and I've been using 2 syringes since I got over 30. Just done a +3 and she is at 337. I don't think I will be up too much longer but will get a bedtime test and then a morning test before I leave. Catch up with a new post tomorrow night.

Have a good night's sleep tonight Suki - pay attention Crystal!! Here's to a slow slide down overnight. Best of luck with tomorrow.
And a skip at that high of a dose takes an even long recovery time. Following up, I think I would do a 75% dose instead of 50%, then drop back as you suggested.
Suzanne also found that 50% doses were too much of a reduction, but I like being conservative the first time until we have more data on a cat. Crystal did surprise us with going low blue 2 cycles after two skips in a row. However, given this morning's skip and tomorrow's, she'll be fine tomorrow and the little bit of extra juice tonight will help her get back on track faster.

Thank you Wendy, I'm going in for a gastric endoscopy as I have a hiatus hernia which is causing problems, at least I'll get a good sleep as they put you out for it as it's not pleasant if you are awake.
I wasn't sure what dose to give tonight but hoped that 31 wouldn't be too excessive and she would just flattened out nicely this evening. I've just got my bedtime test of 304 so I can rest easy, and start all over again tomorrow evening. Off to bed now, night night.

Had one or two of those endoscopies, and done it both ways. You'll be much happier not awake!
