Good morning all,

Choco's was a little lower than normal this morning but not low enough to scare me. He is doing wonderfully and it sounds like Piggie is doing well too. The update that I got at 4am was, she was sleeping peacefully and her respiratory rate was down to 32. They were going to see how decreasing the oxygen 5% each hour worked for her so I will see how she is doing here in a bit. THANK YOU ALL for your support, kind words. I would love to be able to get the echo done today but I don't know if that will be possible. The vet tech just loves her and can't believe she is 15 1/2. :O) I'll update as soon as I can. Gotta run!

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103

I missed your update yesterday I'm sorry. ((((Piggie)))) There is a heart group on yahoo. I have a friend who was on it a few years back- her cat had CHF and kidney issues and had to balance the two. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/feline-heart/. I am sure members here will give you good advice also.

My dog has been in and out of CHF since last march. Lasix is worth its weight in gold. But she was also put on other medications to help her heart work better. Enapril is often prescribed for cats. The visit to the cardiologist for our dog is the best money we ever spent. It was about $400 here too but we had to drive 3.5 hours to a vetschool for that rate. It would have cost us a few mortgage payments to do it locally.

Sending hugs to you and your kitty.

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103

Hello everyone,

Piggie and I are back home and she is sleeping on the bed right now. She is on a heart med called Atenolol which I have to wait to give her until tomorrow morning because the ER vet had her on some other heart med that started with a D and I had to give it to her every 8 hours which is not possible with my schedule. The Pharmacist said to let the first heart medicine get out of her system and to start the Atenolol 24 hrs after her last dose of the first heart med. The Atenolol will be given twice a day as well as the lasix (Furosemide) 1/2 tablet twice a day. This is what she will take until she has her echo next Monday. We are going to Georgia Veterinary specialists and for the consult and echo it will be $475.00. If they have to do anything else, it could be as high as $800.00. She is still breathing a little too fast for my comfort but the vet said her heart rate was in the mid 100's as to where when I brought her in yesterday morning, it was in the 200's. She did not care to eat but was more interested in drinking. She did urinate a good bit before we left the vet so that made me feel a little better that she's getting some more fluid out. The vet tech did say they had given her some baby food so I think I will stop and grab a couple jars of chicken just in case she still isnt' interested in her wet food later. For now, she's home and resting. Thank you all for all the support and kind words. It is the most comforting feeling in the world to know people who honestly care and understand the love I have for my babies.

Choco is doing well today. I did get a ketone test last night and it was negative. The pharmacist asked me why I wasn't using the vials of Lantus and the only reason I could remember reading about was that it went bad faster. I'm not really sure if that is the reason or not but that's what was in my brain. He was just asking because he said the vials are cheaper. I told him that some people have said they get the Lantus from Canada for about half the price and he cautioned me that the you don't know where the Lantus was made and it is not checked out by the FDA. He said anything could be in it and Canada just distributes it so you have to be careful. Any thoughts on that?

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103, +5 61

No help at all - except maybe post the medication on the heart group and get a copy of the reports to upload if needed.

Sending hugs. I sure hope our Lantus is good up in Canada. Its meant for us humans. I think if you get it from a reputable company located in the Canada (CDN Pharmacy) it should be good. Vs ordering from overseas. Let see what others say.

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103, +5 61

Well, I have read that quite a few people on here do get there Lantus from Canada and haven't had any problems so I think I feel confident enough to order it from there as well. I just wanted to pass on the info that he was telling me to see what others thought. I am going to check out heart group tonight and see what they have to say. Oh boy, I think Piggie is about to throw up. ;O/

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103, +5 61

I hope Piggie is feeling much better now that she's home with you.
When I buy Levemir from Canadadrugsonline, there are two different prices $114 and $160 for the same thing, and I asked them what is the difference, and they said the cheaper one comes from Turkey and the more expensive one comes from Canada, so I opt for the ones coming from Canada.
Please give Piggie some extra scritches from us.

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103, +5 61, pmps 101, +1.5 111

Hi guy's, today has been a long day and I am sooooo glad that Choc's numbers are doing so well. Piggie has eaten twice since my last post and is hanging out on the bed. I did get the drooler tonight and Piggie could really care less about her. She basically had no response. She looked at her and said ahh, whatever. She turned around and walked away like the dog had been here forever. Choco is again sitting on my lap as I type this and with it being rather chilly outside, he is warming my hands. :O) I'm going to get this next test in and I may have to call it a night. Hope everyone had a wonderful Monday.

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103, +5 61, pmps 101, +1.5 111

So glad that you have a treatment plan in place that will work with your schedule and a consult scheduled with a cardiologist. I think it will be a huge weight off your shoulders.

And Choco is looking great as usual!

Please give he and Piggie some pets for me!!

Re: 3/7 Choco amps 103, +5 61, pmps 101, +1.5 111, +2.5 79

Will do Christie and thanks. Please give Willie a nice scritch from me as well. :O)

Choco is looking so awesome. I'm so glad Piggie seems to be feeling better. I hope the Yahoo group and especially the cardiologist can help you. If it is CHF, a lot of her management will be on your plate. But amazing groups make a big difference. The cardiologist gave my dog "months" and I was so upset he gave me a longevity estimate. By the look on my face he immediately back tracked. She was diagnosed last March and saw him in May. His advice has bought us so much more quality time together than if I hadn't seen him. She was playing ball with my husband tonight.

And the friend I told you about - who had the cat with heart disease and kidney issues. Her vet gave her cat two months - he had CRF on top of it. She did have to syringe feed him through the blips/crises (I think this is more kidney related) and he lived 18 months.

Sending hugs to you guys.
