Billie ate fairly well this morning! I'd say appy is at 50%, similar to last night. I ran out of Turducken but she ate a decent helping of Merrick beef pate, and I am going out for some more Turducken and some of the baby food she likes. Also, there was enough food missing from what I left out when I went to bed last night that I think she ate overnight, because it looked like a lot was missing for just Brooklyn.

I called the vet and am leaning toward not bringing her in today since she is eating better and drinking, and I'm not sure how much he can help at this point. I am going to call the IM vet on Monday and try to get her in asap. This vet told me to give her Pepcid if I think she's nauseated. He told me that last time she was having appy issues too. As far as I understand, Pepcid is for stomach acid, so it may not help if stomach acid isn't what's making her nauseated? I did find that I can order ondansetron without a prescription from the online pharmacy where I get Billie's inhalers (inhousepharmacy.vu). They also have mirtazapine.

I will be home to keep an eye on Billie today, and hopefully, she'll keep eating. Thank you again for all of your support. Sending vines to all the kitties and beans needing vines, and big congrats to Blackie and Angela!!!:D
 
interesting that you can get it without a prescription..... I find the ondansetron helps.... and we just got Mirtz...
start small if you try it. My vet started at too high a dose and Shadow was meowing too much and constantly, but
she did eat because of it.
 
FWIW, Noodle was nauseated a bit when she had problems with diarrhea last week and Pepcid seemed to help. Her appy was off and got better within a couple hours of 1/4 a 10mg tablet. I figured it couldn't hurt to try as I couldn't get a script that night anyways.

You are correct about pepcid. Ondansetron works so well and has so few if any side effects. I use cyproheptadine for appy as it can be dosed as much as twice a day as needed. Mirt never lasted long enough for the cat I tried it on and it has more side effects. That being said either Amy or Tricia said their vets don't like cypro and I have no idea why.

Deanna, I'm just catching up on Billie's ordeal. Oh my. You keep eating, little girl. And feel better. We're all pulling for you.

Hi Deanna.

I'm glad Billie is eating something today. Generally, if your kitty is throwing up clear liquid, it's a sign of acid stomach and Pepcid will help that. My regular vet likes to try Pepcid first when you're not sure why the kitty's tummy is upset. If that doesn't help, then you move to Ondansetron. I give Pepcid to both Minka and Harvey to help with the harshness of Pred on their tummies. Minka also gets Ondansetron daily to counteract the nausea chemo can cause. You want the 4 mg tablets of Ondansetron, by the way. I give 1/2 tablet, but the vet says I can give 4 mg total per day.

I think I mentioned yesterday that I give about 1/8 of a tablet of Mirtz, because it can really hype your cat up. The Oncologists at UCD prefer Mirtz over Cypro. They feel it is more effective. I haven't really pushed for the Cypro, but I might ask again this week when we go. You can only give the Mirtz every third day, and like Elise, I find it only lasts about 36 hours. You do NOT want to give Mirtz if you think your kitty is nauseated. Always treat the nausea first, and that will often cause the appy to improve.

To add to what Tricia said, you don't want to give cypro to a nauseous cat either. It's hard to tell if they are nauseous. Max doesn't smack his lips or anything like it. He simply won't eat or eats very little.

Billie's appy is about the same as last night tonight. Not great but not too bad. She ate more Turducken and some baby food. For some reason, she likes the baby food straight out of the jar, and not in a bowl. It's very cute to watch her eat it. She is eating smaller amounts at a time tonight, but I think she is eating about the same amount as last night overall. I am leaving plenty of food out.

I gave her some Pepcid this afternoon, and I'll try it again tomorrow. I'm not sure if it helped, but it sounds like it can't hurt. If she needs something more, I can ask the vet for ondansetron Monday, and hopefully he'll prescribe some if I tell him the Pepcid didn't help.

Billie did a weird kitty sprint routine this afternoon. She started running around the couch, went in the litter box, didn't do anything in the litter box, then sprinted to the bedroom and back to the living room. She has been known to go for the occasional kitty sprint, and that usually seems like a really good thing, but the fact that she made a pit stop in the litter box is weird. Maybe I'm overanalyzing her being a cat, but I'm wondering if she is uncomfortable or if she was trying to do something in the litter box. I have seen her pee a few times but haven't seen a poo from her today.

I hope her appy picks up some more tomorrow. Sorry I haven't visited any condos today - I will visit tomorrow! I hope everyone is doing okay - sending vines to all the kitties and beans needing vines.
 
Billie don't you dare start with the constipation, we've had more than enough of that around here lately!
