Hi, I self tested thai for about 1 week after being diagnosed until I could purchase the lantus prescribe by by vet. His numbers ranged between 312- 475 during the testing / non lantus week.
I began the lantus March 1st, being conisistent with timing and the doasge the vet recomended 1 unit 2 times per day. I was unsure of the dosage, so I posted the other day, and I was doing the syringe correctly. The only thing that has changed is I am using 9 live daily essentials wet cat food, instead of friskies, which is what i had been giving them before. i give them two cans (thai and two others) 2 x times per day. Dry food is limited to a place he can't get too. Last night he had a little canned salmon (not cat food).
I am perplexed as to why since I have started the lantus, his numbers are going UP? 490-511. Today I used the relion meter - same one I have been using since beginning and it register HI
. I looked this code up and it said his numbers may be above 600 and to try again. I tested three more times and all the same. I gave him the regular dose, and came right here to ask WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON?? Has anyone else had this happen? What should I do ... give more insulin? Am I using the wrong insulin? I am really scared.
Thanks
