You have months of data and experience. Looks like Mikey only went below 40 once or twice and then only barely.

He doesn't appear to be a crazy deep sea diver. Other cats dive to 20's or 30's on a somewhat regular basis and with little warning.

Once you get started "shooting low to stay low" with Mikey, you likely won't look back.

Yeah, he's always been really good about self-regulating and bringing his own numbers up by eating on his own. It makes it so I don't worry too much (like yesterday's +5/84 at lunchtime, I had no problem going back to work knowing he wasn't going to drop too low). One downside is that I end up worrying that I'm growing complacent nailbite_smile so then I start to worry over lower numbers. ohmygod_smile It's a vicious cycle and the only way to break it is to finally suck it up and start "shooting low to stay low."

It looks like Mikey does a good job of limiting himself. Even if if you weren't home, most likely the very worst thing to happen is he goes a little too low and bounces.

However since there is a first time for everything, we still keep tabs and test plenty.

We are lucky to have cats that don't seem to gravitate to nail bite lows, but we only know that because we have plenty of data.

It looks like I did yet another a fur shot this morning, but now I'm starting to suspect it might really be the insulin losing its punch (I've had this Lantus vial since the beginning of October). I got a prescription a couple of weeks ago for the pens when I first thought it was going bad (turned out to be another growth spurt that hadn't shown up on the scales yet), so I'm going to fill it tonight and see how it works on Mikey tomorrow. He hasn't gained any weight and usually when he does (or is about to), he has alternate cycles of greens and blues vs. pinks and yellows. This time around, he's going for multiple cycles in a row of yellows and pinks.

No kidding! There are so many times I am just sooooo thankful that Mikey has no other issues or complications besides hyperglycemia from his diabetes and that even with his hyperglycemia and young age, he responds consistently well to the insulin and dose increases with no blacks and no hypos and has never had ketones. cat_pet_icon
