Hi everyone, hope you are doing well. I wondered if I could get an extra set of eyes of my spreadsheet.

I dropped Lovey's dose down from a pretty fat 1.5 a few weeks ago because I was getting some 80's earlier in the cycle and I was feeding. I went back up to a 1.50 from a skinny 1.5 because I am getting some really high preshots and more bouncing. Now the preshots are the same or even higher. Today I ended up coming back home and tested Lovey and I am finding that she is going low pretty fast. Any advice about dosing? I was going to raise the dose a bit, now I think I should lower it again? Maybe she is bouncing too much from lower numbers?

I'm not much on dose advice, unfortunately. All I know is that in order to go down in #s, you need to go up in doses. Also, the preshot #s are usually the last to come down. I hope that someone with more knowledge in providing dose advice comes along soon to help you. Good luck, and hang in there!

I'm glad you were able to come home and check her today. It looks to me like Lovey is clearing her bounces pretty quickly and then coming back down on you. The fact that she was getting into the 80s on the AT on sk1.5u tells me that dose was working for her and that the 1.5u might be too much for her. She could be dropping like this when you are at work but we don't know.

Please forgive me if I'm asking a question you've answered before but sometimes I need a refresher. Your schedule doesn't allow you to shoot any earlier so you can get a +2 before you leave? That would at least let you know where she's headed and you could leave food out for her in a timed feeder if she's dropping.

If she were my kitty, I'd probably drop the dose back down, at least to sk1.5u. You are doing a really good job at the nighttime tests but you can see she's evening coming down at night and going back up so she could be doing the same during the day. If you were able to monitor her more during the day, you could leave her at 1.5u until she earns a reduction but I am just suggesting dropping the dose for safety.

What do you think?

You're welcome. Do you have any preference or thoughts on the dose? You do know her best although I know it really helps to have another set of eyes on the SS.

???? I was confused, not sure. Lovey's bouncing improved during December-mid February. She looks like she is bouncing more again though since I dropped her from 1.5fat due to low 80's too early in the cycle. The fact that she is getting blue and green numbers sometimes is good so I know that the insulin is working.... II just wanted to reduce the pinks. Thanks so much just wanted another opinion.

Every cat is different and goes through different stuff so I can't answer for sure but as an idea you may want to check out Jerry's spreadsheet. He was quite the little bouncer until he found his perfect dose and then I started getting gorgeous numbers - completely out of the blacks reds and pinks and entirely into blues greens and the very occasional yellow. I've noticed a lot of dosing variations in your spreadsheet and the best advice I can give is listen to what your cat is telling you. For my little bouncer I didn't make any dosing adjustments until he told me. How he told me was either dropping below 50 or when he got into the issue of constant reverse NADIRs. I admire your courage to bring Lovey down little and little but it may not have been a smooth transition or settling into a perfect dose. It is scary when they fall below 50 but as long as you check and are there to catch it everyone will make it out a-okay. I caught Jerry at a 23 once showing no symptoms, but those 2 signs are how I brought him down safely and got him into remission. Testing is key as it helps to fill in the blanks and gives information to these helpful folks, in Jerry's case his lowest numbers always came at a +5 so a +5 to 7 is good to check for the lowest low but it's also good to get a +3 or +9 to fill in some more of the picture. Bounces can be very frustrating and hard to comprehend but you're in good hands. Hang in there and good luck to you.

Sarah has some good points but the difference is that she was able to get mid cycle tests every day. So she could tell where Jerry's nadirs were. It's more difficult if you can't see the nadirs like that because you don't know if she actually did drop below 50.

I tend to err on the side of safety when you aren't able to get those mid cycle tests due to work and other life obligations.

What is a Reverse Nadir?

Hi Sarah,

My Rocky does some deep dives in green fields, and then, immediately after this, his liver kicks in and his BG's numbers do a spectacular trapeze climb, for MANY reducie shots. I don't really know how the experts here define "clears a bounce pretty fast," but I do not believe that is the case for my Rocky.

You said you could tell how the insulin was working for Jerry because of his REVERSE Nadirs. What is that?

Thank you, Tina

I think they call it an inverted curve for the NADIR. My best way to describe it is as reverse because his NADIRs wound up higher than his preshots when they should be lower than the PS. He got a few reductions from falling below 50 but a lot of them came from frustrating numbers that I thought made no sense till I realized that was his way of telling me he was ready for a reduction.
