Good Morning LL! Java puked a little this morning so it was a rough start but our AMPS was 235!!!!!!! He's coming down! He seems beter today even with the puking. I have been giving the budesonide every other day so maybe that caused it or could be a flareup of CP? He's already here for round two of breffis and its only been twenty minutes! GO JAVA GO! Good day to all and heartfelt wishes for all of our ailing kitties, Speedy Recovery!

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167

should I test more frequently than once an hour? Where is the point where you start testing more often, under 100?

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 question about test freq

Steph...how often you test depends on your kitty and how low he is. For kitties that are divers, we test more often. Also for kitties that like to go low, and stay low, you have to test more. So I think you will need to figure this out for Java by trial and error. Right now, he's coming down at a nice rate but do you know if he speeds up past +2? We typically say that if the +2 is alot different (more than 50) than the AMPS, then you might see some action. You're at that point....so without a good bit of data, I would recommend you test him at least at +3 and see how fast he's coming down and then decide whether you want to test hourly until he hits his nadir. Just for your comfort. Check back in with us if you need more suggestions after +3. Great job!

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 question about test freq

Nice AMPS! There's no simple answer to that question. If you are worried, you can always test more frequently, regardless of where the numbers are. I'm glad you got a +1 and +2 this morning, you can see that Java has been dropping steadily from PS...that's an indication of a possibly active cycle ahead. It wouldn't hurt to get a +2.5.

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 question about test freq

I agree with everything Marjorie said. If you take a look at Gabby's SS, you can see where I test more frequently -- but keep in mind, Gabby is prone to fast, early dives. I test more frequently when I'm fairly sure Gabby is heading into lower greens.

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 question about test freq

Thanks you guys. As you can see we are new to these nice low numbers, how exciting!

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 question about test freq

It's very exciting!! So nice to see healing numbers. There will be folks around if he gets lower and you need help....we'll walk you through it. While we were gathering data with Gracie, we were testing ALOT. Now that we have more of an idea of what she'll do, we try to test less unless she gets low (40s/50s) and then we'll test a little more often. Even with a lot of data....they'll throw you a curve sometimes; I know Sienne will atest to that with Gabby!!!

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 +3 106 + 3.5 95 +4 83

ok seems like nice even numbers. I have gravy but doesn't seem like he needs it yet?

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 +3 106 + 3.5 95 +4 83

I would not give him gravy at this point....He's got a nice, slow, steady downward trend. 83 is a PERFECT number; if you give him gravy, you take the chance of driving him up over 100.

Thanks Marjorie, i may just be getting the hang of this after all.

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 +3 106 + 3.5 95 +4 83 +

ok how low should I go? I read in the how to handle low numbers low was under 50. test again in 30 minutes?

Re: 3/6 Java AMPS 235 +1 208 +2 167 +3 106 + 3.5 95 +4 83 +

You're welcome, Steph. He has dropped almost 20 in the last hour but 64 is also a very safe number. If he gets to 50, I'd definitely bump him up a bit. If he just drops into the high to mid 50s you have two options (1) it's possible LC might bump him up so if you know it will, you could give him a little or (2) recheck in 20 mins and see if he's coming up on his own.

ok I will check in 30 and see where we are at. He just ate a little bit more of his LC. He is such a grazer!

Re: 3/6 JavaAMPS 235 +3 106 +3.5 95,+4 83,+5 64,+5.5 78 +6 7

So do you all think I can give his ears a rest? Or should I keep going every hour? He did so good today but his ears aren't bleeding real well. The last two tests I had to climb up to the top of the cat tree so I could use a break also.

Re: 3/6 JavaAMPS 235 +3 106 +3.5 95,+4 83,+5 64,+5.5 78 +6 7

I think you'll be OK with a +8. I might feed a bite of LC to keep the surf going.

Re: 3/6 Java PMPS 74 HELP!!

Ok so this afternoon I had 2 in a row at 78 and my +8 was 96. I didn't test again until PMPS and he is 74!! I obviously didn't shoot but what now?

Re: 3/6 Java PMPS 74 HELP!!

I would wait for 30 minutes, without feeding yet, and test again to see if Java is rising yet.

Here is some information on Dealing with Low Preshots, in case there is nobody around to help. Unfortunately I can't stay up for much longer to help.

i think we hit submit at the same second...

Its been 20 minutes and we are 199? he ate a couple bites before i pulled food but not much at all

Re: 3/6 Java +12 74 +12:20minutes 199? HELP!!

I agree with Miriam, how about retesting to see if the 199 is correct?

Re: 3/6 Java +12 74 +12:20minutes 199? HELP!!

That seems like a huge jump. How about retesting at +12.5 and posting. I'll keep an eye out for you.

thanks I retested and got 179. i should have retested the 74?

Re: 3/6 Java +12 74 +12:20minutes 199? +12.5 179 HELP!!

No, the 74 was consistent with your numbers earlier in the day. It's the big jump up that had us wondering if it was a bad test. You're fine to shoot your usual 1.75u. Numbers are heading up.

shoot even though we are about 40 minutes out?

eta ok I shot and then fed. this is crazy, I felt so in control earlier to day then all of a sudden, Wham! Thanks everybody for the advice, I will keep testing every hour?

Re: 3/6 Java +12 74 +12:20minutes 199? +12.5 179 gave 1.7

Steph,

I'm with you. Gracie had her first really crazy day and I was hoping for a relaxing Sunday. We just have to get used to seeing these numbers more often and things won't be so nerve wracking.

Have a great night!

Jason
