3/6 Bubby. 5 days OTJ still low

Bubby is 5 days OTJ and still constantly having the lowest numbers of his testing life. I read some condos and SS today that showed other kitties OTJ that had pre shots in the 50's or 40's so I am a little less worried. I quit giving him the Ziwi peak Venison/seafood as it seemed like when that was in his food he went lowest but nope still got a 30 this morning on the Relion meter and a 55 on the ATrax. He seemed okay and not even that eager to eat. I also read a post about him needing to stay low carb for the rest of his life. Good to know as I still get worried about these low numbers.

Yesterday I gave him a puff of his inhaler. I haven't used in for quite a while but he seemed off and his lungs were a bit wheezy. ( probably that morning window session ) Sorry Bub gonna have to keep the windows closed. I was worried it might affect his BG but thankfully it still was low. We also had a bad storm here last night that had him worried. Our first thunderstorm since we moved to this house he didn't know where to hide but settled on the inside of a end stable we store his toys in. But the storm stress didn't affect his BG either. He also doesn't seem to rise much after his regular snacks.

That is awesome......I often wonder what my outdoor kitty would be. that is 1 test that will never happen!

Wonderful numbers for OTJ. Apparently, a lot of cats will stay between 50-80 OTJ. Some cats even in the 40's. Amazing the inhaler didn't raise his BG.

YES, once OTJ they are still considered diabetic but diet controlled. So , it's important to have him stay on low carbs the rest of his life.

Congratulation ! It's amazing how Bubby went from wreck to perfectly functioning system !

Looks as if there was a loose bushing that came back into place like if nothing had ever
happened.

Bubby's looking great. If you haven't got them yet, here are the OTJ trial instructions.

Start the trial on the next green pre shot. (He's already started!)

If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!
