Try warming his food up in the microwave for a few seconds before giving it to him. Hopefully that'll entice him to eat more. If that doesn't work, sprinkle some Forti Flora on top after you've warmed the food up. Good luck, and have a great day!

Was just able to run home today to let Sasha out as I've been on the run all day and did a quick test on Tiki and BAM - he's at 40! Did a second test to confirm as he squirmed just as the strip was doing its thing and that one came back at 46. @-)

Glad I came home when I did!!! Maybe this is why he was howling so this morning. It was a preview of things to come!

So the result of Tiki's super low dip into the 40's today was explosive diarrhea that now resembles a Jackson Pollock painting all over my wall. Gross. Usually it's a dip below 40 that results in a dose decrease, but should I just go ahead and do the decrease, given his response? Before he never had any side effects of going so low, but lately he has had diarrhea each time it's happened.

Thoughts??? I need to shoot him in the next 45 min to an hour (845p to 9p EST).

Good catch on that 40 Tonya! That's a little later in the cycle than he usually nadirs so I can understand how you think he might have gotten below 40 today. I think it's your call on whether you reduce. If you don't, will you be able to monitor the next couple of days? - chances are he might go there again soon.

Yuck on the wall painting! Are you giving him gravy after the lows? Just wondering if he's developing a wheat allergy. I have to limit how much gravy I give Neko or things get too loose. And it's really bad after she's gotten into bread. :roll: Maybe time to think about adding karo to LC? Or adding a probiotic to his HC fuds.

good thinking, wendy, about the wheat. tonya, you could try mixing karo with low carb regular food instead of giving gravy.

since he's up in the 200's now, i'd probably give one more of the previous dose and reduce in the morning. that's my thought - i'm not sure there's a perfect answer for you.

I gave him about a tablespoon of Karo and his normal MC Roasted Chicken FF which he has had regularly off and on ever since he was diagnosed. Never noticed it gave him the runs in the past so it's either the Karo or the low BG's. I dont think I gave him Karo on one of the last ones where he had the bad poo's so I really think it's the low BG's. (Did I mention how he LOVES the Karo? It must be the equivalent of going to a donut shop for us! lol) I am leaning towards reducing him as no I won't really be around to monitor during the day tomorrow.

a tablespoon is a mighty hefty dose of karo! i wonder if he wouldn't zoom so high if you gave him less, maybe also not get diarrhea. marje describes using "a drop." i used about 1/2 tsp, perhaps, for punkin. you only need just enough to pull him up out of the 40's. karo won't last long so giving more all at once isn't better than giving a little, then testing again in a bit and repeating if necessary.

i'm just wondering if that is a contributing factor. how long after the karo did his gut explode?

poor baby. and poor you for having to clean it up. one of the least appealing tasks of taking care of a cat! :lol:

Well to be honest I didn't measure it. It was just a big SQUIRT of it into his bowl. I went overboard as I was only home for a bit before I had to leave again. But good to know it doesn't last long. I have no idea when the 'splosion happened. When I got home it has already happened and I was met at the door by a wall of STANK. He also didn't even eat all of the roasted chicken I had given him. Perhaps less than half. This is the second can of it he hasn't eaten. Hope nothing is wrong with the batch we have (we buy it in the variety box). It smells ok, or as good as catfood can smell to a non-cat. I set those aside (as they are MC) and use them only when he does super low.

Poor Tiki!!! And poor Tanya for having to clean it up.

I have a 3 ml needleless syringe and literally give a drop out of it. It might be .2/.25 ml.

Been there, done that, Tonya!!

When we first started this dance, I guess I skipped over the "drop of Karo or syrup" part and dumped about 1/8th of a cup of Maple syrup into a bowl and happily watched her lap it up! She was in sugar Heaven and loved it!

Didn't take long to figure out I'd gone just a tad bit overboard :lol:

I don't blame you for going ahead and decreasing, especially if you can't be around to test. Better safe than STANKY!
