her TK1 gen2 thymidine kinase , type 1 result was 2.5 ( normal < 2.3, negative < 7.5 , positive > 7.6 )
her F-HPT feline specific haptoglobin result was 85.2 ( normal 25 - 64.9 , low inflammation 65 - 140 )

so right now, IBD.....
and I got lots more to learn. first thing for me to make is a bone broth

and here's her belly pic... note the exasperation that I came in with a camera....

yesterday her local vet gave me b12 shots to give her
and wanted me to try mirtzipine

I gave her the mirtz last night, and she has driven me nuts begging ....
at first, she still wouldn't eat.....
but now she's eating everything I put in front of her.....
next dose will have to be a lot smaller.....

she seems to be in some pain too.....
if this is mild ibd, I hate to think how it will be when it's full blown......

IBD, if managed well, is not going to be a huge problem. For Skooter, it did present some challenges when he was first diagnosed with diabetes, food being the main one, but since you already have her on a food that is decent for the diabetes, you should be ok.

Skooter lost half his weight and was having vomitting and diarrhea issues pretty bad before he his diganosis. He was able to get his weight back up and went about 7 years without any major issues. And the "major issue" that came up was his diabetes. It is more about just keeping a careful eye and looking for those symptoms when they first start up.

she quit eating all her less than 10% carbs..... and had been eating 12% -15% and suddenly wouldn't eat them either..... I don't want to go up any and I'm thinking the gravies are aggravating her......
all this with low levels.....

What a sweet belly! She looks so much like my civvie, Noah.

I don't have any IBD experience, but there are a few here who are well-versed. Sending prayers that things fall into place...

I just read what the vet on the lymphoma list has to say about the TKl test is too new and enough data is not available. He feels it shouldn't even be used to determine anything. He said that it "might" be good to track it over time but no data is out and the propaganda about it is high. I certainly wouldn't treat based on it but that is just my opinion. Many cats with IBD need to avoid grains or require a novel protein. Just like FD it's an ECID thing and you have to experiment to see what works and what doesn't. With inappetence or picky eating I always suspect nausea. Have you ever had an fPL test for pancreatitis?

I'm sorry about the diagnosis, but I'm glad it's not worse. IBD can be treated. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

That's such a cute belly pic, even is Shadow is disgusted.

Blackie and I are sending you and Shadow tons and tons of healing vines, and wonderful appy vibes, too. We both wish for her to make a full and speedy recovery. :bighug: to you both.

Hi Rhiannon,
I don't have any experience in this area, either, but just want to send some vines for good appetite for the right kind of food. Poor Shadow had to have her belly picture taken! I'm sure she was not happy.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

I'm glad they think it isn't lymphoma. Harvey's IM Resident had never heard of the test and was looking into what it was. I was told the gold standard for determining if it is lymphoma is still a biopsy.

I give Minka 1/8 of a tablet of Mirtz (which is really hard to do ), and that's all she needs. More makes her bounce off the walls. Meanwhile, Sasha, who weighs less than Minka, can take 1/4 tablet without a problem. ECID.

If Shadow seems to be in pain, I would ask the vet for some Bupe (if you haven't already). I'm a little surprised they don't want to try to get ahead of this instead of waiting for more symptoms.

Sending lots and lots of healing vines.

my local vet got the report too....
she's okay with starting cyclosporine if I want.

she's concerned about the buprenorphine that Shadow already gets for her severe osteoarthritis /Hip.
She didn't like that Shadow has mirtz and bupe together.
I mostly only give bupe at bedtime.... and just 0.15 , tiny dose.....

and of course she wanted me to come get some science diet or prescription royal canin....
and I said no... and the second one is too high carb....

and she doesn't want me to try harder to get her to eat raw.....

however, I'm looking for some newer, smaller company foods ... and most of these are raw... high quality..
answers pet food
vital essence
primal ( she's had it)
feline natural
darwin's
bioethics ( which has goose by special request as well as other novel proteins)
hound & gatos ( she's had it)
and 2 new ones coming this year....
my perfect pet food
lucky cat cuisine

I also told her I wouldn't mind pulse dosing budesonide.....
it does raise her bg..... some..... but I would mind maybe giving it every 5 days....

I do that with prednisone for myself when I need it.... I want take it every day but I'll pulse it....
but she doesn't want to do that.

we will be getting the mirtz from somewhere so I can get that tiny dose..... it's way too hard to cut a 15mg pill ....
ideally she would get 1/15

aw, her back toes are just adorable! love the pic!

My brother sent me a link to his friend's website about cat nutrition and I thought she had some really interesting things to say. She apparently knows Dr. Lisa at the www.catinfo.org site. One thing she said that i thought was rather insightful was that people often suggest going to a "novel protein" for a cat with digestive issues. Her take on it is that it's all the stuff added to the food that cat's wouldn't normally eat, being obligate carnivores, that should be avoided. Not poultry, but the stuff added in.

Maybe something on that site will be helpful to you. If i had a cat with IBD, i think i'd try to get it on a raw diet, but that's just my 2 cents worth.

Sending "feel good" vines to miss shadow!

You can glare at me all you want Shadow...I'm still going to scritchey, scritchey, scritchey that belly...soooo smooth. And those toesies! Overloaded on the cuteness.

Can't help at all with the medical stuff. But I can send buckets of vines. Catch.

I can't address the test for TK as I know nothing about it.

I do know about cyclosporine and I would just urge you to do some homework on it and be sure you are comfortable giving it. It is an immunosuppressive drug and is normally used, in pets, for skin conditions caused by allergies. It's been used for IBD in cats. You should be certain that Shadow has never been exposed to toxoplasmosis as the drug can cause the toxoplasmosis to rear it's ugly head again if it's been "dormant". Cyclosporine is processed through the liver and can affect the liver so if Shadow has ever had any liver issues, I'd avoid it. If she hasn't, I'd monitor her bloodwork to be sure it is not affecting her liver.

At the opthamalogist's recommendation, I used cyclosporine drops topically for Gracies meibomanitis. Although it is assumed thst most topical applications will not result in systemic effects, it wasn't too long after thst Gracies liver enzymes started to be elevated...and they weren't before. Coincidence? maybe...impossible to know.

If you remember Tena/Curry, her kitty, Sid, was losing weight and having problems with IBD symptoms. Tena's vet, who was involved in studies on the use and effects of cerenia in cats, prescribed cerenia for Sid. Tena said she has been a different cat.....gained her weight back, eating well, feeling much better. Cerenia is used off label as an anti inflammatory. I might ask about that.

Loved her belly pic. I hope she feels better and you can get the IBD under control do it doesn't make her feel bad.
