I was at work today so wasn't able to get any mid-cycle tests.

Max has been off the Cerenia for two days now and no vomiting yet, so that's good! The thing is, now he's being very fussy about his BG checks and his shots! I had to stick him THREE times this evening for PM shot and I still got some insulin on the fur because he squirmed away. He's never been like this before! I give his shot with food always so he's hungry and distracted and it's usually a super quick poke and we're done. I rotate poking spots (on ears and for shots) but today he was just NOT having it. I couldn't believe he kept trying to get away. That is so unlike him. Any ideas what could be going on? The only thing that's changed is that the new insulin pen I got from CVS didn't come with the foil seal over the top, but I didn't think much of it. Do you guys think I should be more concerned about that?
 
Are you Shooting using the pen ? If so get insulin syringes with half unit markings. It’s a very tiny needle. Max next felt the shots.

Did the vet give a cerenia shot? It stings so perhaps he remembers that.
 
I wonder if Max is starting to react to the acid base of Lantus, which can sting. Some kitties on higher doses of Lantus (or even smaller doses), start to react to the shot. I didn’t think it bothered Neko much, but she occasionally walked away during the shot. One of many reasons I eventually switched to Levemir. She purred through those shots.
 
I've read members creating fun and rewarding routines for their kitties during shot time like getting pets for a few minutes before or going to a safe space. Maybe even some yummy low-carb treats although Max would've just eaten :p
 
Good points Crista, shot time was usually cuddle time for us, shortly followed by acupressure which she really liked.

I'm not using a pen to inject, I'm using a syringe. He got a Cerenia shot about two weeks ago but hasn't reacted to any shot since then (until now).
 
Max just vomited a bit of bile, noo. He's been doing so well. I gave him a dose of Cerenia. Trying to nip this in the bud before it starts and we end up in the hospital again.
 
Orlando was the same last week. Nothing had changed, he just didn't care for either. Orlando gets his injections without distractions, so we just took it slow, nice and easy, and on his terms. He got his injection 10 minutes later than usual that first day and I wasted one BG test strip, but gently did it. After a couple of days, he was back to normal again. Murphy (my other diabetic cat, who's been in remission for almost 6 months now) was the same sometimes. He's an "inject with distraction" cat like Max. With him I had to add a different distraction. He loves plastic bags, so he got to play with one while I injected him, or he got to go to the bedroom (which he loves), so I'd touch the bedroom door handle, and while he waited for me to open, I'd quickly poke him. Again, after a few days we were back to normal.

I don't know what causes it, but having given myself intramuscular injections weekly for 10 years, I would sometimes hit a nerve (or at least it felt like I did), which hurt. So maybe it's the same with the cats? One injection suddenly hurts and then they resist until you can get a few regular (none to little pain) injections in again.
