Wow! What a last 24 hours we had. Thanks to everyone who helped me get through it with a special thanks to Marje, Wendy, KPassa,Eliz, and Tara. I'm tired so if I left people out I apologize. I'm going to give Max his insulin now, 15 minutes earlier than I should to gradually get him back closer to the right time since daylight savings is coming up this weekend. Anyone want to take bets on whether there will be a bounce today?

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192

Hi guys .. loving the blue max! No betting here, but fingers crossed the bounce does not happen! Have a great day guys!

Here's the link to those exciting 24 hours. I'm glad he finally let you sleep last night. As Devon says - no betting on cats here either, they are too unpredictable. Paws crossed he decides he likes blue.

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192

I'm not much of a gambler nor am I any good at predicting what Max will do. He has been quite vocal again this morning yet it wasn't hunger guiding it because after his test he ate his baby food spoonful to wash down his gel cap but then turned away from his food. Maybe the taste of carbs was still with him! Thanks again for being there.

Loved the morning number but now he is bouncing. I sure hope it doesn't bring him back to constant high numbers.

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192 +3=311

A bounce is to be expected after all that serious greenage yesterday - and not only for how low he went but also how quickly he got there-
200 - 40 in an hour! You put that all together and it is something his body perceived as potentially life threatening.
So the counter regulatory hormones are released in response. His liver is 'on the job' to raise BGs and avoid hypoglycemia, which is good.
If that were not the case treating FD would be much trickier.

As time goes on and Max spends more time in progressively lower numbers his liver will calm down. It's a process we sometimes refer to as 'liver training' ;-)
By observing and documenting BGs, ideally you will be able to see the severity and length of bounces decrease over time.

And before that he went from 320 to 200. I was pretty sure it would happen. I just hope it doesn't bring him back to days of high numbers like the last decrease. Thanks.

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192 +3=311+7.20=327

i'm going to be optimistic and think that the long day spent in green numbers yesterday will help his body learn that this was an ok range to be in!!

glad so many folks were around yesterday to help you out. looks like you handled everything like a pro, elise! :-D

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192 +3=311+7.20=327

Thanks, Julie. I couldn't have done it without them! I now have a question about daylight savings. With the wild ride yesterday Max is now an hour later with his shots and will be another hour off with the time change. Would it be a bad idea to shave a half hour off each day? I don't want to hurt him on any way. He got his insulin last night at 8:15 but I fSvr it to him at 8 this morning. Will giving it 15 minutes early each shot to get him closer to his time be a bad idea?

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192 +3=311+7.20=327

you can either give each shot 15 minutes earlier or do 30 minutes once per day, whichever is easiest for you.

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192 +3=311+7.20=327

Thanks. I just didn't know if it was a bad idea because of his bouncing. I really didn't want to give him his insulin at 9. :-x

Re: 3/5 Max AMPS192 +3=311+7.20=327

it's a good idea, in fact. when you give insulin earlier, you're taking advantage of the overlap. if Max is high, you might be able to bring numbers down that way.
