Good morning or afternoon everyone! Sorry for my absence yesterday, I was kicking butt in the studio and spending time with the kitties!

Yesterday was recorded on our SS and is as follows:

AMPS 297 . +3 309 . +6 332 . +9 288 . PMPS 222

I have a feeling we had a "miss" yesterday during AM shot. :? .. maybe not. When I gave him his shot he wiggled a bit just as I pushed down on the syringe. I know with absolute certainty he got his PM shot, though! He did ask to be fed an time extra, around mid morning. However he does not eat more than a tablespoon or two at a time. ..I dont know, perhaps I am looking too closely at things.

His AMPS was very high this morning, which was strange. I think between the other day (3/3 - Lance's 3/3 Post with his HC "snacks" and having potentially missed a poke yesterday it made his morning reading higher?

Lance seems happier than ever, and has been more active than usual, actually. My fiancee thinks it is because he is getting about 60% of my attention  Which may or may not be true..He is extremely spoiled, and knows he is my Kitty Best Friend for Life.

I'll be popping back in with more updates later! Hope everyone has a splendid day! - its snowing here today, and it is so beautiful!

One way to tell if you got a "fur shot" is that it will smell like bandaids - mmmmmm, nummeh! One thing I noticed is that you fed HC food the other day when you got a 69. In my opinion, that may not have been necessary. I don't know Lance, but I would have fed some LC food and tested a little while later, just as you did. If he drops below 50, I'd dip into HC - definitely if he gets to the 40s (always feed the 40s). The idea being the LC food will help keep him flatter, rather than bumping him up with HC. Hopefully, people with more expertise will chime in soon.

Welcome to LantusLand, Alicia! That's great that you have started testing. It really is the only way to keep Lance safe. Good job! :-D I agree with Tara that you didn't need to give him the HC with the 69. But I can also totally understand that you probably got a nice shot of adrenaline when you saw the meter!  I just look at it as another opportunity to gather data. You see what Lance did with what you fed him. Next time you can try the LC and see what he does. If you can get him to "surf" those nice greens, that is perfect. I would recommend keeping a log of everything you feed him and when, then you can look back and decide if you want to do the same thing as last time or something different.

I grew up in central IL, Oakford, population 250.

The way I'm looking at Lance's SS is that it's possible that his PM numbers went lower -- maybe blues or even greens. As a result, Lance bounced into the 400s this morning.

I'd like to encourage you to get at least one test every night before you turn in for the night. Many cats experience lower numbers at night. If you're missing half of your data, you could easily miss numbers that warrant a dose reduction. In addition, you don't know whether Lance is venturing into numbers that are unsafe.

Hello all!

Thank you for the advice, I ran out and grabbed more strips for the meter this afternoon, so now I can a.) not run out and b.) stay up and do some night time testing. This is something that I definitely desire to do, and will keep trying to do! If not this evening, than Wed. evening I will be up until at the very least his +6/PM.

I agree, the HC food the other day was most likely unnecessary, Im sure I'm not the first person who has panicked when first seeing "green" numbers.

- That is gross but good to know!

These are very helpful, and are the sort of answers that are especially encouraging and re-assuring.

- I grew up in Danvers IL, I dont think the population was over 1000 including the outlying farm families. My grandmother raised me on her farm, and I took it over in '09. We had to sell quickly due to a massive decline in her health in 11'. It broke my heart to see that place go, but I cant hardly bat an eyelash for why. She would be living off of nearly nothing with COPD and congestive heart failure without having sold the property. :-| I live in the same town now, for a few reasons. But mostly to build my finances while keeping close to help her.

** Edited to add our +8 457 - yuck!? Where are these numbers coming from, he seem like he is all over today :(

This has certainly been an interesting day for our numbers!

As encouraged, I am going to be up again at 2am to do a +6 reading, our night is as follows so far:

PMPS: 310
+2 - 286
+4 - 86

Lance had just finished his last 3 bites of dinner form earlier as I took our +4. Not much more than 2 "thumb sized" bites, so Im fairly sure it will not have much affect on our next reading. He has been attentive and continues to offer to play with the two babies, which is still progress. Lance in the past could not even be in the same house as another cat. I think these two are just the right age for him to accept, as well as boss around!

I think he is really enjoying the extra handling and attention, even if it does mean more "pokes" He is quite the closet-cuddler!
