Morning all! We had a hungry morning. I have had to adjust feeding times since Java was diagnosed because of the 12 hrs. I have class two nights a week until 8:30 so I have to start later in the morning than they are used to. Wow did I get bugged this am! But I have ~O) ~O) ~O) now, so the day is looking up! Mmmmmm wild blueberry, gotta love the Keurig! So a nice day at home today with lots of cuddles and some homework thrown in for good measure! Have a great day LL!

Re: 3/5 Java AMPS 271

Hooray for cuddles! (not so much for homework, but nice to have time to get to it...)

enjoy your day!

Re: 3/5 Java AMPS 271

Good.....Java is coming down some. There's a saying around LL that flat yellow mean business later so it will be interesting to see what he does today.

I hear you on the Keurig...couldn't live without mine!!

Re: 3/5 Java AMPS 271 +5 301 +9 309 Java feeling a little ro

Well my baby is feeling a little rough this afternoon. Blood sugar seems stable, but he is just a bit off. He seems almost spacey? He threw up a little foam, kind of a dry heave. Maybe the IBD? I don't know I just feel really helpless. He ate before I tested the +9 so his appetite is still good. Does anybody else's guy get kind of spacey? His pupils have also been dilated a lot in the past couple of months and I have brought it up to my vet but he doesn't seem concerned. His BP has been checked and it was fine. Any thoughts? thanks again for all the nice visits to our condo, Java loves hearing from all of you. Oh and me too, LOL!

Are you spreading out Java's meals? It may be that if you're feeding all at once, some kitties experience an acid tummy. See if spreading out the meals a bit (e.g., divide them up at test time, +2, +4 and +6) and see if that helps.

I actually leave it out all day. He is a grazer so if I try to meal feed he doesn't eat. If I don't think he gets enough ps, I carry it to wherever he is sleeping and he usually eats a little more.

dilated pupils and diabetic - is there a link. I know DL is blind, and my friends diabetic cat is blind. Is this diabetes or high blood pressure that does this?

I did a little Google search and dilated pupils and diabetes can lead to blindness. I don't know what I will do if he goes blind. I am just heartbroken and kind of pissed because I have mentioned the dilated pupils at the vet several times and they either aren't hearing me or just don't freakin know what's going on. I mean this is kind of MAJOR! Go figure it would be Saturday after they clsoe when I figure this out. Can't call til monday. He seems like he is seeing ok, but maybe this is the start? Seriously, I can deal with alot, diabetes included, but this would seriously suck!

Hey Steph! Sorry I have nothing to add on the question of the dilated pupils... hopefully you can get to the bottom of it soon! Perhaps print out some information from reputable internet sources and get some video of the eyes to show the vet?

Fingers and paws crossed that Java sees some downward action tonight! Hope you get some rest!!

Thanks Christie, I am probably just borrowing trouble. He has always had a nystagmus which I guess by the vets reaction is fairly rare. I know cats can do fine without sight, he has just been through so much and he doesn't deserve any more for now. I know thats not how it works though. Many of our furbabies on this board have been going through a lot lately. I wish we could just start the year over with everyone healthy! How is that gorgeous man, Willie?

Re: 3/5 Java threw up again, question on meds?

Java threw up again this morning and I don't know what to do. I have budesonide which I have only been giving every other day because he can taste it and I wanted to make sure he ate. I really didn't think the IBD was really doing anything. I guess I was wrong so I can give him that but I also have some bupe from our ER visit and I am wondering if he is actually in some pain? Maybe a CP flare? He was acting yesterday like he had been around the time he was diagnosed, sitting on my chest and staring at me kind of spacey? We do our AMPS in 2 hours so I am wondering if I should give him a tiny bit of food now with the budesonide and then give some bupe or should I wait on the bupe for am feeding?

Re: 3/5 Java threw up again, question on meds?

I would hold off on the bupe unless you know that Java is in pain. It's a narcotic so I wouldn't suggest giving it indiscriminately. You might be better off giving 1/4 of a 10mg tablet of Pepsid. If this is pancreatitis or an upset stomach, the Pepsid will help.

You might want to post on Health about IBD or put something in your subject line here other than asking about meds. It seems like your question is more specific to IBD.

You might want to eliminate beef and fish and any food with gluten from Java's diet, if you've not already done so, and see if that helps.
