I made a big mistake : AMPS was down from PMPS +11 of 105. I shot his full dose :( but the good news is Gadget showed no signs of hypo but remained alert and ate well. We will see what happens to his numbers from the dip into the 40s.
I decreased to 1.25 tonight.
I am sooooo lucky to have a cat that doesn't mind ear testing!!
Plus... today my local vet suggested a dose increase based on his fructosamine results in the 500s.
I didn't really get upset either? This is my second vet that really has no clue.
Sigh.

Woohoo! Congrats on that reduction. :D Great job handling the numbers today Deborah. Gadget is looking so much better these last couple of weeks.

If you like the vet for other things, just smile and nod when they talk about dosing. And then do what you were going to do anyway. Neko's vet and I don't talk about dosing anymore.

That was no mistake since you were able to monitor, that was fabulous and a reduction earned too :D it wouldn't be so unusual to see a non diabetic cat at 44. Not sure how you managed the steering (carbing) of the lows since there's no notes in your spreadsheet but some testing tips for next time. After the 52 I would have tested again in half an hour instead of waiting the full hour. The reduction was probably already earned at that point and you could have started the carbs then to keep her from dropping further. Once you are below 50 (I am assuming you definitely fed by that one) you should keep testing every half hour to make sure the carbs are keeping her bumped up. I recommend you print out the shooting and handling low numbers sticky at the top of this forum to read and review a few times. Of course you can always post here for advice too :)

Congrats on the reducie :D go Gadget go

I do like the vet she is so nice! But it is just wrong that they can't be clued in to a major cat disease like diabetes. Plus one that could kill the cat with bad management! Especially with the amount of money they charge! So I guess this realization is part of the journey. The long, scarey, frustrating diabetes journey!!

I have 3 cats and the 2 females are skinny maybe kidney cats so I free feed Gadget and girls low/no carb food.
Since I was home yesterday and today I watched Gadget all day and saw no sign of wonkiness. I never gave him any higher carb food. He came up on his own. But I will print the link you suggested. He's in the greens again today.... Yay!!!!!

Yikes, you do want to be careful with those numbers under 50 when they're taking insulin as the insulin can keep pushing them down. Vyktor is also free fed and often the clue that it was time to test was him inhaling whatever was in his bowl. Based on his numbers it looks like Gadget did feed the lows himself and that the LC worked ok for him but you definitely don't want to wait until you're seeing symptoms of hypo before intervening. Please be careful :nailbiting:

His ss is looking very green :D:D:D
