There is a phenomenon called New Dose Wonkiness (NDW), where numbers go up instead of down when the dose is increased. This should be temporary, so you just have to hang in there and try not to worry. Eeyore did have a green number the other day and he is probably bouncing from that. It can take up to 72 hours to clear a bounce. Just keep on following the protocol. Sometimes the whole process of getting regulated just takes time.

Ugh! That is my least favorite BG. :-x You just have to wait it out and follow the protocol. That's the safest way to get figure out Eeyore's dose.

yup, i agree with Ella and Liz. The bounce can last 3 days from the "low numbers event" - the pretty green 68. they can clear sooner, but he might be high until tomorrow night. just hang in there and wait it out.

the HI sucks, but you can't do much about it. The certainty is that the bounce will clear and you want to hold his dose so he isn't overdosed when it clears.

are you adding water to his food? whenever he is high like this, it's good to check for ketones every day. Ketones aren't just from high numbers, the recipe for ketones includes not enough food + not enough insulin + infection. So keeping him eating is important. Water in his food is good for most diabetic cats - they are prone to being dehydrated from the diabetes.

edited to add - if you can get him exercising that can help the cells process insulin better and lower bgs. so perhaps some play would be good, if you can get him playing with a wand?
 
Arighty! I read about the new dose wonkiness but wasn't sure how extreme the bounces could be and if a HI reading was still within the scope of being okay. E has been eating plenty today, I would venture to say he has even had more of an appetite than usual. I will make sure to add water to his food though so he gets the extra moisture! Thank you again! It's so great to be able to post something you think is an emergency and get a response fairly soon, I would go crazy over managing this if I didn't have y'alls support! And I work in healthcare! I can't imagine those who find our their kitties are diabetic and have no prior exposure to needles, blood, medications, drama etc!
 
i think most people feel the same way you do. some of the quirks of FD seem so counter-intuitive! we all needed someone to point us to the resources and the information about how it can work in a cat's body.

the whole bouncing thing - if you didn't understand the liver was behind it, who wouldn't look at a HI and think they needed to increase the insulin?

it just takes a while to learn about it. i'm glad you're getting the help you need.
