Good morning! It feels a bit too early again for me, I wonder if I'll ever feel awake again and we have the lose an hour time change coming @-) . Thanks for the visits last night, Chris, Marje, and Deborah :-D . Yesterday: Chyna 3/4

We are back to low blue again today! Chyna is feeling fine, some but not much poo but subqs last night should help. Otherwise, same old same old so far ;-)

Well, I need to schedule bloodwork next week and I'd like to have a checkup on her eyes at least while I'm there, preferably a once over with heartbeat and such done. Chyna turns from sweet quiet kitty into scared, hissing, growling, biting kitty at the vet  . She's fine in the carrier and the trip there and back, and even before the vet or vet tech comes in the room. Then she starts growling etc. Even if I hold her for them...

So I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on something calming to give her that works for them! A collar, a spray, a treat, a pill the vet gives you beforehand? She has so many allergies...and she's never worn a collar. They had to sedate her to check her teeth last appointment, and not only can I not afford that I don't like having to do that either...any suggestions welcome  . I cross posted about this in health too: Chyna Health Post

I'd better go shower etc so I can go to tbp  . I hope to visit you all later, have a good day LL!

Re: 3/5 Chyna AMPS 129 Calm for vet?

Morning, Rachel

Unfortunately, I don't know of any product that you can give to calm them down. She's showing you a lovely # this morning, though. :-D I hope you have a wonderful day.

Re: 3/5 Chyna AMPS 129 Calm for vet?

Unfortunately, I can't really recommend Frankie's "calming" treats, as they seem to wind her up more than calm her down  ! Then again, that could just be because Frankie is a crazy kitty. Plus, her situation is different than Chyna's. I have heard people have good luck with RR for vetty visits, though.

Lovely AMPS for Chyna! Surf it safely, little one!

Have a great day, Rachel!!

Re: 3/5 Chyna AMPS 129 Calm for vet?

Good Morning Rachel!

I'm glad Chyna is all purry and feeling well right now. I hope the subq's help her fill up that litter box! You know how I like to celebrate poop, so come on Chyna, make my day!

I don't have any recommendations on calming her for her visit, but I was going to mention RR, or perhaps nip.

I hope you have a great day!

Rebekah

Hi guys .. yay for low blues! No advice from me on how to have a calm kitty at the vet .. that's something we haven't mastered yet! Have a great day guys!

I'm afraid I'm of no help on the calming situation either but I too have heard good things about the thunder shirt. She is giving you a pretty day so far, that's nice to see. I hope that you can find something that works for her.
Have a wonderful evening Rachel! ;-)

Beautiful flat day for Chyna - if only she would do this all the time!

Good luck on the calming thing. There is a reason torties have reputations at the vet's office. I guess Chyna just likes to live up to the reputation. I have seen Thundershirts for sale in Petsmart here and other pet food stores. In addition to RR, I've sprayed the inside of the cat carrier with Feliway for my nervous civie Theo. Of course, that doesn't help once she's out of the carrier. :? Maybe a calming collar would help with that as they are pheromone based. I seem to remember someone here used one.

Are there any vets that do home visits in your town?

Nice numbers for Chyna today. Good luck finding something that works to help calm her at the vet. Poor kitty getting so upset.

HI Rachel:

Chyna is looking really good today.

Harvey wears a calming collar. Sentry makes them and they are available at most pet stores. I think it helps him. He still does his bullying thing with the other cats, but he doesn't go "psycho" like he used to. I'm intrigued by the thundershirt, myself and may try one. I've tried Rescue Remedy on Harvey and it seems to make no difference. I have not yet tried it on a cat going to the vet. I should have done so with Cinco today, as he was freaking out, especially on the way home.

Hope Chyna surfs safely for you the rest of the day and tonight. :-D

Wow, great day for Chyna! And just dipped her paddy paw into the lagoon.  No suggestions from us. Zener will let the vet do anything and Tillie just shakes. And sheds. All. Of. Her. Hair.

Today was a purrfect curve as far as I'm concerned :-D . The after mid cycle test was green so she was most likely a bit lower, plus she'd eaten in the 45 minutes sometime before I came home from lunch to check ;-)

Today we were short (again) and super busy, I'm wiped! And that darn sore throat is back  . I'll try to visit some condos tonight, and I'm sorry if I've missed yours.

Thanks for all the visits, everyone! I'm glad for the advice and comments from you all, Angela, Sienne, Amy, Suzanne, Rebekah, Devon, Ella, Lauren, Wendy, Carla, Tricia and Liz  . I'll look into it all, but the vet appt is set for next Wednesday morning so there isn't a lot of time to have something shipped way up here  . I should have asked months ago  . The collar sounds interesting but she's never worn one and she has allergies to scents so I don't think that will work  . I may go check out the thundershirt if they have it in one of the pet stores locally, I know Petsmart is really good at letting you return things so that's probably my best bet in case I can't even get it on her  . I'd like to try RR but I didn't see it at the health food store...maybe I'll order online and try it next time if the other things don't pan out.

Wendy, there are no vets who do home visits here unless you have a horse or a cow. Farm country  . I checked into that when Chyna first started her fits...poor girl. She used to be quiet and scared, till the overnight IV and dental last year, then it was all downhill. It makes me feel so awful. If there was any way for me to draw blood and do the exam for them, I would ;-) . Maybe putting her nanner in the carrier would keep her happy...

Anyhoo, I'm off to attempt condo visiting! Before I crash...happy hump day, LL!

Perfect curve, indeed. One for the textbooks, in fact. Nice job, Chyna. :-D

The collar does have a fragrance, so maybe not such a good idea. I ordered a thundershirt - didn't feel like running around to Petsmart and Petco, especially since I was just there earlier today!

Hope she surfs safely for you tonight, Rachel, so you can get some rest. Sending healing vines for your throat. :YMHUG:

Re: 3/5 Chyna PMPS 127 +2 109

Lovely numbers tonight!!!! Wish I had an answer to the crazy kitty at the vet question. As we all know from this past weekend, Shasta has to be sedated when we go to the vet because she becomes a psychotic, feral kitty.  :YMSIGH: I showed my vet a video of her at my house because I was trying to show him what I was talking about with her leg spasm thingys. It was a quick video of her rubbing her face all over my (my hands), etc. His response: Is this the same kitty I just sedated?!  Our poor kitties are so misunderstood! Hope you get some good advice. Sleep well!!

Re: 3/5 Chyna PMPS 127 +2 109

Unfortunately the pet version of RR doesn't seem to be available in Canada. I got mine in Bellingham. The people version has alcohol in it, not the best for diabetics but I know lots of people who have given it to their fur-kids. I've seen in it the Save-On-Foods pharmacy, organic section. Might check out any big grocery stores that have those kind of sections, maybe Superstore? The pet kind I got at a specialist vitamin store and have seen the people kind at a vitamin store here. Sometimes vets carry it too. Worth asking for their opinions on sedation, after all, they have to deal with her!

Tonight looks like a repeat - a bean could get used to this. :-D

Re: 3/5 Chyna PMPS 127 +2 109

Beautiful cycle today Rachel!! Couldn't ask for much better!!

You should try putting her nanner in the carrier!! Might even help to give it to her before it's time to go so she can work off some energy! Catnip can help calm them (as most of us can attest to since after they're done licking, kicking, chewing and otherwise loving on it, they usually pass out for a nice long nap

Keep surfing safely Chyna!! You're doing blue-tifly so far!! Going for a dip soon?

Hope you have a quiet night Rachel!

Re: 3/5 Chyna PMPS 127 +2 109

Thanks Tricia, I may just try the thundershirt...I hate the idea of any fragrances or herbs with her allergies  . I wouldn't mind trying the RR...if I could find the pet one in town...sounds like not.

Hi Deborah, thanks. I know, they just don't believe me at the vets that she is so quiet and sweet at home, a big purr-ball  .

Thanks again Wendy, I wish I'd thought of asking sooner so I could have ordered the pet one online, I knew BW was due :? . I did ask the tech on the phone when I scheduled my appointment if they had anthing they give animals who are freaking and she didn't know of any meds but had heard of the thundershirt. I can't afford sedation again on top of an appt and BW  . I hope it's a surf for the night but I'm doing a +4 right away...I'm so tierd! @-)

Hi Chris, thanks, its so funny that after they attack it, now she does love to sleep with it  . And seems so happy just hanging out with it! I will definitely be bringing it along in the carrier...
