3/5 Chispa, 135 AMPS, 147 +3.5, 116 +6, 151 PMPS, 61 +2.75

I cannot figure out what is going on with this girl. I've tried to be very consistent with what I am feeding her at what stage of the cycle, but she is still all over the place. She has eaten less than usual today (most days she is ravenous, but not this week), and what she has eaten has been mostly very low carbs. She had 0% meals at +3.5, +5, and +7, no food after that, and still managed to be 151 at shot time. She never went low enough during the AM cycle for this to be a bounce, so with all that said, why would this be happening? The last 48 hours really have me scratching my head. Grateful for any ideas from the sages ...

Food experiments can take a couple weeks to settle in. I would stick with one feeding idea for a while before switching it up.

OK, another piece of the puzzle: I just weighed Chispa and found that her weight has gone from 14.3 four weeks ago to 14.8 now. That is too much.

I’ve been trying to cut down on her portion sizes, but I wonder if feeding 12% at +1 and +2 in both AM and PM cycles is causing her to gain weight. The 16% food that I mix 2:1 with Weruva 4% to get ~12% carbs is 99 cals./3 oz. can. For comparison, the Weruva is 99 cals./6 oz. can. So that’s adding up quickly.

The 12% feedings at +1 +2 were meant to keep her from diving at +3, but she is diving anyway — not in every cycle, but often. Is it time to feed only low-carb and let the chips fall where they may re: diving? Maybe she would be easier to regulate if she was less overweight? For reference, her typical weight used to be around 13 lbs.

Remember that carbs are not the same as calories. Check the calories of what you're feeding. Either you're feeding her higher calorie food or it's a temporary bump in weight from something like your kitty drinking more. Weight can vary a bit from day to day.

Hi Sienne — Thanks for the reminder. The higher carb food is also twice as high in calories as the LC, so I do think that’s part of the problem. Looking back at her SS from last year, she was 13.4 lbs last August. Though adorable, she really is too plump.
