Hello LL

Checks didn't feel much like eating this morning.

Checkers still has the 'mouth' problem, even after the recent surgery, to remove 'floating' tooth root, left behind by last dental.

If just last month they searched his mouth, under anesthesia, with xrays, for the second time, and still don't see anything obvious in his mouth....how can I make them find what is bothering him?

Different vet is out of the question for various reasons, most important being, other local vets use an emergency clinic, an hour drive away. These vets will come out to meet client at the clinic, or the farm, or wherever the emergency is.

edited to make less wordy.

Adding explanation
He starts this mouth contorting, first thing in the morning...while he's standing on the sink, waiting for the faucet to be turned on.
I think the dry mouth is uncomfortble, somehow.

Then he does it after eating. Makes faces, like he's trying to get something out of his mouth!

I have cleaned all around inside his mouth with gauze, many times, and find nothing.
Last month, he indicated pain, when I cleaned the bottom gum....hence the surgery, for the 'floating' tooth fragment/root.

Today he is obsessed with the faucet. I don't think he's thirsty.....I feel he's trying to rid his mouth of something.
His mouth has been examined several times, by doctors, with no resolution.

This has been going on far longer than he's been taking Tapazole, so that's not it.

He has a vet appt in 8 days for hyperT blood recheck.

Edited to shorten.

Re: 3/5 Checkers amps 461 +2/365 +3/286..thoughts please

Hi guys .. I'm sorry that checkers is still having problems with his mouth .. I thought for sure once they got rid of the root that problem would go away .. I don't really have any suggestions as far as what you can do to help him .. If he wasn't making those faces I'd just say he's a cat that likes running water but with the faces he makes it seems like there must be something else going on ..

Morning Barb ~O) ~O) ~O)

Sorry for the continuing mouith problem. it all sounds so familiar - my civvie BJ did that. Vet determined that she was getting food stuck in her cheek, and was trying tor remove it (not too sure I buy that... ). What she as doing sounds so similar to what Checks is doing. I dunno..... Could he have something stuck in there? probably not if this is a continuing problem. I wish you luck! I too had BJ up to the vet several times looking for the same answer. I hope you get one. Good luck.

In the meantime, Checks, come ion down - the lower floors await you.

Re: 3/5 Checkers amps 461 +2/365 +3/286.

Hi Barb, so sorry Checkers is still having something going on with his mouth. Wish I knew a possibile cause. Sending feel better vines. Is Checkers drinking water?

Re: 3/5 Checkers amps 461 +2/365 +3/286.

Michelle, it actually does seem to be something stuck in his teeth, or cheeks, that's why I clean around in his mouth with gauze. I never come up with anything, tho.
I'm going to have to believe that's what it is. I can't keep bringing him to the vet, who finds nothing. It seems like he's trying to use water to get rid of it.

We had a nice snuggle fest today. He normally isn't a snuggley cat, so I turned the camera on video and just let it run a few minutes to capture the beautiful moments in time. I feel him aging, and it's killing me.

Re: 3/5 Checkers pmps 344

Hi Barb. I'm so sorry that you aren't able to determine what's bothering poor Checkers. This sounds way out in left field but could it be an ear problem? I know sometimes when humans have pain in their ear they will move their bottom jaw around to get some relief. We will keep Checkers and you in our Prayers.

Have a good night Barb.

Re: 3/5 Checkers pmps 344

That's sweet you got to enjoy some snuggles with Checkers today. I hope the mouth thing is just food that has gotten stuck. Maybe he still feels like it is there after it is gone, like people do if we get something stuck in our throat.

Re: 3/5 Checkers pmps 344

Poor Checks. That has to be uncomfortable. You know your kitty and know when something isn't right. Come on down Checkers! Have a great night Barb!

Re: 3/5 Checkers pmps 344

Hi Barb - I went through the same thing with BJ - finger in the mouth etc, never did come up with anything. She kept acting like something was stuck - i dunno. Very frustrating,. I eventually accepted it for what it was, as I too couldn't keep hauling her off to the vet, who never did find anything either. Very cool on the video you did today. I have done a few with Mannie too. I so udnerstand the comment about seeing and feeling them aging. It is the same with Mannie, and with the issues he has I wonder, really wonder, how much longer I will have him. It's tough. so... hugs to you.

Checks - you keep those snuggles coming... We beans love that stuff!

Re: 3/5 Checkers pmps 344

Does he still have sutures from the most recent procedure? My civvie, Petey, had a dental in the end of January; about a week and a half after it, he started freaking out again...pawing at his mouth, running away from his food bowl, and all that. I took him in, and it turned out he had a piece of food caught in the suture that hadn't dissolved yet. The vet removed both, and within a day, Petey was back to normal.

After Mario...I totally know what you mean about watching them age. It's hard...but it's beautiful, too, to have them with us, no matter what. Many hugs!!

Just getting caught up and so sorry to hear that Checkers is still having mouth problems. Trixie's suggestion sounds good, but the vet should have found that. have you ever tries brushing his teeth? If there is anything stuck that may help dislodge it.
