it has been 3 days now since Bubbys last shot. I have been checking his blood here and there as he will alarm me with this uncomfortable look on his face. What I get are numbers in the 50's or 40's. I guess he is still not use to the way these feel so I give him a small snack and that seems to make him feel better. The last couple cycles were mostly 50's, last night he seemed desperate to eat his 3 hour snack so I checked his blood and got 56. I woke up a couple hours later and checked again to see if it had risen and it was 36, double checked with the alpha trax meter and got 74. Are these really low numbers an indicator of anything? He seems good most of the time. Just not sure what to think of that 36.

Hi,
I am new to this but I know some one experienced will be along.

Can please change the prefix of your post from ? to 911? Right now?
Sending you best wishes
Have Karo syrop or honey handy

The numbers are alarming if you using human meter

I see you checked that 36 with the alphatrak and he was at 74 (which would equate to around 50 on a human meter), might just have been an off reading with the relion?
Sometimes if we don't get enough of a drop of blood or too much blood we can get an off reading, so I would say just double check when you get something odd like that.

Thanks Gill, maybe my meter runs on the low side, if that's possible. Something like that could explain getting a lot of 40's? Know we should be happy for the low #'s but just being cautious.

I think cautious is good, I would double check any worryingly low number you get with the relion with your alphatrak just like you did the other day, remembering that 50 on a human meter is approx 68 on alphatrak.

Some cats also do genuinely run low as their "normal" numbers. I get an occasional number in the 40's for my OTJ cat, but I've heard of others that basically hang out in that range the whole time. It's always good to re-check a weird number, regardless!

Good info from Nan and Gill. I would always double check a surprisingly low or high number. Likewise, some cats just do happen to have their "usual" readings in the low range.

@LisaStew How exciting to be on your OTJ trial! Your kitty is so cute!!!!!

I would be nervous to see those low numbers too but maybe that's because we are so used to seeing such high numbers. Your kitty had a lot of blacks on the SS in the beginning and you've been at this for quite some time. I am so happy for you and hope the OTJ trial is successful.

Good luck!!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
