Gah!!! One more shot to go in the AM and I’m getting nervous now!

If all goes as planned tomorrow AM cycle.. do I start his OTJ trial on Sunday (but no shot tomorrow PM)? Rather than having half days?

I count tonight as 13 cycles at this dose, one more to go. Then if things remain as is :D, the trial starts on a green preshot. But we then call it a PMBG (blood glucose), cause you aren't shooting. Who care's about the half days. :p

K wait… are you saying if tomorrows AMPS is :D… my condo title should be:

3/5 Gus - OTJ Trial Day 1 - AMPS #, (adding PMBG # in the evening)?

I still give him his shot in the AM if green?

I know that I don’t need to test much besides AMBG and PMBG (from what I’ve been seeing, but I’ll most likely have to wean myself off testing, lol … my curiosity will kill me. Probably a mid +6 tests

Anything else I should know? I’ve been avoiding these question to not hype myself up but it’s getting really real now!

With great pleasure here are the OTJ TRIAL DIRECTIONS.

Instructions for starting the OTJ trial
Start the trial on the next green pre shot.
If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!
Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number. Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.
After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!
Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.
Good luck with the trial!!!
Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

He did show signs of getting tightly regulated in July and then glucose toxicity set in from holding the 1U dose too long and then SLGS!

If I could start over I’d have come straight here and started TR, but alas, I cannot! I’m just so glad we got here eventually! Regardless of how this goes, we are in a better place then we were months ago.

And yes, the hardest part of the trial is limiting yourself to just two tests a day. Sometimes we need to do an intervention. :p

An intervention on the human…. Ya, that’ll be me haha

Ok, so I will dose in the AM. Do I call it OTJ day 1 still? And test throughout the am cycle still? Then only one test at PM cycle? Sorry wish it wasn’t a half day.. would make it a bit easier
 
When Furball had her OTJ trial it started on the PM cycle. I just counted the next day as day 1 to avoid confusion. I've seen people start on the PM cycle and count it as Day 1. They just change their subject line during the day. It is confusing. You can do it however you want. Sooo exciting!
