Yesterday's Condo

It is official. I am the WORST BEAN ON THE PLANET!!!! I was petting Cinco a little while ago, talking to him and asking him what was wrong, why he's so flat yellow, and I glanced over at his water dispenser. I thought it looked a little low, so I went over and picked it up. It wasn't low. It was EMPTY!!!!

There was a little bit of water in the reservoir, but the bowl was DRY!!! No wonder he's higher than he should be and constipated! He hasn't been getting enough water the past two and a half days!!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead: I wondered, last night, why he came over to Harvey's feeding area, which he very rarely does, and was drinking out of the fountain for a long time. He cleaned off Harvey's plate, which is what made me think he was just hungry, but he was thirsty!!!:facepalm::facepalm: Bad bean, bad bean!!! I washed the water dispenser thoroughly and filled it. When I set it back in place, he heard it and got down from the sofa to come over and drink, drink, drink!!! I am so upset with myself, I don't know what to do!! I remind myself he gets lots of moist food, which has a lot of liquid, plus I add water to his food, but still. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought about giving him some fluids, but he isn't acting dehydrated. I'm lousy at judging it by the skin snapping back method, and his mouth is wet right now from all the water he just drank. Do you think he will get back on track by just drinking water?

Sasha and Minka had medium appies this morning - they ate about 2/3 of each of their breakfasts. Harvey did not care for the selection - Evo 95% Chicken and Turkey - so I had to break out some FF, which he cleaned up. He still has one more pill pocket to eat, and I suspect I will be hogtying him shortly to get the med into him.

I haven't heard from UCD on the test results yet. :nailbiting:

Well, I must now go and beat my head against the wall and otherwise castigate myself for my lousy caregiver skills. I hope everyone else is having a better day.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug: Prayers continue for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, DH and DGD, Lisa's DF, Chris' DM and Elise's DM. Extra poo and appy vines to Skooter.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You're only human. We've all forgotten things. At least he had other water to drink. I don't know how water affects BGs. I hope the kitties continue to eat for you and you get the test results back soon.

Here's another vote for not being so hard on yourself.....since China's been on insulin, her water needs have dropped so much that I hardly ever have to refill the water bowl although I try to rinse it out and put fresh in regularly, I still sometimes forget to even look

Now that I don't have a drooler around, the water bowl hasn't needed near as much attention.

I don't think it would effect Cinco's numbers, but who knows with this crazy disease what might cause wonky numbers?

Now hear this Cinco!! It's time for you to get back to business and get out of those yellows! Let's see some pretty blues and greens soon!

It is hard to be on top of everything. The water dish is usually the first thing I forget about also. We have three water dishes two in the kitchen and one in the basement rec room where I hang out. I figure if I am sitting watching TV and the cats drink I can easily get up and fill it. By the way, Sammy is very picky and prefers Brita water, and our city water doesn't taste bad, but I guess he takes after his mama bean, because I can't stand to drink tap water.

I'll join the don't beat yourself up.
I think that's a common one, more than we think. (especially for dogs)

most cats ( and dogs) will find a toilet if they are desperate ( and some prefer it)
And kitties will even go looking in sinks.....

glad you figured out the bowl was empty.....

Rusty has recently decided that he likes to drink out of our water glasses on the dining table! (He also has his water bowls, but rarely drinks out of them.) It's been so cold and dry this winter that he is drinking more than usual (i.e., he is drinking; normally I never see him drinking. I always add water to his food.)

Here's for happy appys for the girls and some blues/greens for Cinco

Have a good evening, Tricia,

Ella & Rusty

Well, I must now go and beat my head against the wall and otherwise castigate myself for my lousy caregiver skills.

*hands on hips* *stomping my foot* *wagging my finger* Now Stop That! Cinco had access to water. Oh, sure he was inconvenienced and probably thirsty. But he'll be fine. It's not like you closed him in a bedroom closet for the weekend and didn't notice for another half hour or so after your return from an out of town trip...oops, that was me and Spikey years ago! Yup, I suspect we've all done something that qualifies as "lousy caregiver." Thank goodess it's not a contest. And thank goodness it's not at all an accurate classification.

Cinco. Back on track little fellow. Your bean needs some affirmation of her awesomeness. Girls, you could help by moving your eating habits from medium to well done. But Harvey. keep being Harvey when it comes to your meds! Gotta have some spice in the family!

Marilyn and Polly

Aww, I'm on the don't beat yourself up boat too. You are the absolute opposite of a bad bean! It sounds like Cinco is totally fine, and I'm sure he got enough to drink between his food and Harvey's water. Sending lots of vines to Cinco, Harvey, Sasha and Minka!

Thanks for the visits and support, Carla, Chris, Tina, Rhiannon, Ella, Marilyn and Deanna. So is it a coincidence that, after I refilled his dispenser and he drank copious amounts, his BG came down? His PMPS is the lowest reading of the day (so far, I hope). Just sayin'....

But Harvey. keep being Harvey when it comes to your meds! Gotta have some spice in the family!

Really, Marilyn? You'd wish that on me, would you? At least the considerate student at UCD yesterday trimmed his talons for me (or maybe it was an act of self preservation, since she was taking him to get a blood sample! :joyful:). I did go buy some dog pill pockets today, to see if the larger size will work better with that darned Azodyl capsule. The cat ones are just a skosh too small. Of course, he will probably still eat the pocket and leave the pill.

I, too, have had experiences with cats closed in someplace with no access to food, water or facilities, but I think the longest it's happened for was about 9 hours. Little darlings held their water, etc., the whole time, too! :p

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) , Harvey and Sasha both like to drink out of glasses or bowls, preferably ones we are using. Sasha has finally figured out she can still drink out of the sink, just has to do it differently than when she had two front paws. I have only seen her drink from a cat water dispenser a couple of times in her whole life!

@rhiannon and shadow, I think I feel so badly about it because Cinco is blind and doesn't move around the house much, so that really is the only source of water he's used to. That's why I was so amazed last night when he came over and drank out of the fountain. He must have been pretty thirsty to do that! He couldn't handle drinking out of the toilet, even if he wanted to.

Well, time to go heat up the leftovers and make the salad. Hope all are having a good night.

Oh Tricia, I am with the others, you stop beating yourself up right now young lady!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug: You set the bar high for the rest of us, sheesh! :bighug: All my kitties drank from the bathroom sink, :( except now Tiger can't make that jump up there, so I am the same as you, having to remember to keep fresh water out. Sending vines for good test results- Have you tried the Duck flavored Pill Pockets? They have a very powerful odor, but Tiger loves them. They do raise the BG a bit, but Harvey doesn't need to worry about that!

Thanks, @Tiger and Ruth. I have tried the duck ones, and no one likes them. I used the dog chicken ones tonight for Harvey's Azodyl, and he ate it!!!! He doesn't usually eat the cat chicken flavored ones. Go figure. Mark has always said Harvey thinks he's a dog - follows me around, etc. :joyful:

Go, go Cinco go! I am down for a pity pawty....can it involve chocolate? I really shouldn't say anything about not being too hard on yourself, unless there is a mirror around at the same time  I feel your pain....I hope that Cinco stays in pretty pretty numbers for you!!

Now I am paranoid, off to check Skooter's water bowl and then will try to sleep again....

One head bang against the wall is permitted under the circumstances but that's it! You do an amazing job with all your fur babies, I really don't know how you manage it all. You should definitely be up for a bean of the year award even considering this little mishap. All is well now and that's what counts :)
