November 13, 2011-My first FDMB condo post
“Hi All,
Tonight I will be getting my first foster with DCIN. I have been a very active volunteer with the Florida Humane Society when I lived in South Florida the past 4 years and have fostered quite a few but never a diabetic. I have 15 cats of my own, 9 which started out as fosters but due to various reasons I chose to keep them. I am now living in NY and as soon as I heard DCIN needed a foster for a cat near me I couldn't say no. I have had a diabetic dog in the past but he lived with my mother and was unregulated. We lost him this past April due to a mass in his throat that was inoperable.
Jennifer with DCIN suggested I sign up with this site to help guide me with my foster. My fiance, Marc, and I are very excited to welcome Mikey into our home.”

I can’t believe that post was just 4 months ago. Since then there has been several all-nighters, the first was just 2 weeks after I first tested him. Special thanks to Marje for easing me into my first “all-nighter” and to Carl for staying up with us to make sure we were ok. I have to say a huge thank you to Marje and Sienne who I bombarded with questions daily and were always so willing to answer and seemed happy to do so. To Julie, Dyana, Sandy and so many others that made me feel so welcomed and if were not able to help, would find someone that could. What you all have done to help me, I could never thank you enough. Also, I just want to thank CD and BigMac, who I never really got the chance to “meet” for making such an amazing OTJ Party video. We will cherish it always!

There was a time when it was questioned if I could handle LL., being new to FD, because the newness and increase of responsibility appeared overwhelming. Marc supported my decision without hesitation to take on this challenge and attempted to work with LL and again with Mikey. We made some sacrifices like leaving family events early to make sure Mikey got his shot, canceling my birthday Broadway show night celebration because Mikey went too low, and even a day where Marc sat for hours in a car on a New York City street to monitor Mikey as I participated in a walk-a-thon. I questioned myself during the long nights up and when events were cut short but knowing Mikey was home and visualizing his face was all I needed to know I made the right choice of bringing Mikey into my picture. I even prepared myself for the real possibility that Mikey was never going to be OTJ and I’m thrilled I proved that to be untrue to those who didn’t believe it could happen. Was it luck, his teeth getting fixed, not eating dry food any more, my faith in him? I think the answer is a combination of all these questions, and I’m just happy that it happened.

I know Mikey will live free and much happier for the rest of his life at the Falls, and no matter what happens he has a new loving and caring family to support him always.

We look forward to seeing you on FDMB, we will not be strangers , Jenn still has a lot to learn ;-)
