Good evening LL,
As of last night, Rocky is back on his 9am to 9pm shoot time schedule. This is now 7 cycles on 2.0u of insulin.
I feel like with the 12 hour shooting schedule that I am kill what remaining beta cells he has left, trying to force a situation on his liver and pancreas that they cannot do. I'm afraid that this shooting schedule is going to wipe out any chance he has of ever going into remission.
Marje, front loading a higher carb food doesn't seem to work with Rocky. His insulin is used up pretty fast. He also gets food spikes. So, what I get when I give him higher carbs at the beginning of cycle he has a lot of pink numbers. It doesn't matter if I give him 5% carb or higher, his BG just goes up and stays up. Then, I see a bunch of pink numbers towards the end of the 12 hour cycle because there is not enough insulin left. Basically, I'm just continuing to give him BGs in the 300s, starting on 7 months now with diabetes with numbers STILL MOSTLY in the 300s. Incredibly, super disappointing. :YMSIGH:

Blood sugar control
In type 2 diabetes, although the pancreas is producing enough insulin, muscle cells and other tissues become resistant to the action of insulin, which results in poor control of blood glucose levels. A number of studies have examined the effect of chromium supplements in those with type 2 diabetes. A recent meta-analysis pooled the results of 41 studies and found that chromium supplements do appear to improve blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes, but the authors state that well-designed clinical trials are still required before any firm claims can be made.3 No benefits of chromium supplements on blood glucose have been found in people without diabetes.

Red meat is THE best source of arginine.Although similar to human DM, feline diabetes has some important differences. Arginine, an amino acid, is the signal for cats to produce insulin in their pancreas.
