Freddie's BG is down it was after he ate that I tested now I know it was that supplement I gave him last night not for Diabetics boy do we have to be on our toes at all times.
Beautiful day here first day it is sunny and warm 44 with another storm coming in for later today and we have tons of snow yet.. Freddie enjoying time in the sun I carried him out to his perch in his outside enclosure and he loved that. He is having a harder time to get around I was hoping that the B-12 pills would work...I feel he will need the shots.
Hope this is a relaxing day for everyone!!!
Freddie is going to make it OTJ!!!! Just have to get him walking good again...he wanted so bad to jump up onto his ledge but he knew he could not do it. I have made steps for him all through the house but not there it is too high for him right now.
Buddy thinks he has something over on him! (he does)

Congrats on the OTJ trial! That's great!

Poor buddy can't jump now, huh? that's too bad.. best wishes on a speedy recovery for the lil' fella!

Do you think it's neuropathy that is the issue or arthritis? The methylB12 pills are much better for diabetic neuropathy than the B12 shots which are cyanocobalamin. The latter seems to work better for IBD and related intestinal issues.

If it's possibly arthritis, there are other meds/supplements (like adequan) that can help with that. I would suggest discussing it with your vet. But remember...no metacam!

HAPPY DAY SEVEN!!!

Marje,
That is what I wanted to know. If the zobaline is for DN which I think is what he has along with arthritis. With his x rays done in Dec. and in Feb it showed arthritis in his back but think the walking is from Diabetic neuropathy.
Also giving Fred cosequin for the arthritis. My vet did talk about giving him adequan but says he has to do the series of shots. YES NO METACAM!!! I have Buprenorphine but only give when he has a pancreatitis flare up. And then only if he is in pain.

Happy Day 7!!!

My GA civvie, Mario, was pretty arthritic and Adequan was a miracle for him...made his last 2.5 years way more comfortable! There is no reason your vet needs to do the injections - we did every single one of Mario's at home, as have many others here. It is a life-time series - a loading period followed by maintenance shots. Maybe your vet is still thinking old school - that the shots have to be done intramuscularly. That is not the case; the shot can be done subcutaneously, and they are just as effective when done as a SubQ shot as an IM shot would be, with the added benefit that an owner can do the SubQ shot at home.

Have a great evening, guys!

punkin had arthritis too. he didn't have trouble walking, but ended up not being able to jump up as well. i gave him cosequin, didn't think it helped and moved to adequan. i thought that helped some.

we also did acupuncture, which i initially thought helped but he got so scared of it i stopped.

the thing that was like a miracle heal with the arthritis was laser therapy. you buy a group of about 6 treatments, then go in every couple of days, then twice a week, then extend the time in between the treatments. punkin seemed to need to go every week, but i thought it made a huge difference. it might be something you could ask your vet about.

is Freddie walking down on his hocks? that is usually DN rather than arthritis - at least as far as i know. are you giving Zobaline?

oh yeah, and
HAPPY DAY 7!!
