Replay of last 6 days. I give snack at +9 nighttime (2:30 AM) which is right before the "dawn effect" hormones kick in, and it does, without a doubt bring down her AMPS number. But now she has blue at midday. I don't know if I should go back to no snack at +9, so her daytime numbers come down again… (head banging against wall… I can't find a pic for that).

Have a great day everyone. Sending vines to BigMac and CD

Re: 3/30 Daphne AMPS 117, +9 119

Hi guys .. oh man, I don't know how many times we banged our head against the wall! Even these mid day blues are all healing numbers though! Have a great weekend guys!

Are you certain that's the reason her numbers are higher during the day, Barb?

Devon, sorry you had to, "bang your head" , but it sure can be frustrating, especially when you know you're doing everything you can to make things right. Thanks for the advice about the blue numbers being healing, I didn't know that.

Randa, I'm sure. Thanks for the "head banging attachment" love it! I wondered where I saw that, I'll have to figure out how to save it, since I think I'll be using it a lot! :? But I am sure about the +9, because I studied the SS over and over, and the only blue numbers Daphne had during the day, after she was regulated, was when I gave her HC for low numbers, and the other time was when I had a bad pen, and maybe a fur shot. Thats the only times. It started exactly the morning after I gave the +9 snack (3/23), her AMPS dropped and her +7-PMPS went up and it continued for each day. I'm not going to give the pm +9 snack tonight and I'll see what happens. She is almost always green during the day and night at +3 to even PMPS and after till +10pm, and I feel like I'm going backwards now. I'll at least go back to the old way for now and see what happens.

Oh, and I can't figure out how to attach an attachment, and now I really need it!

sometimes the +9 snack just makes the insulin work harder...
It worked for some kitties (Binks was one)...but i believe the thinking was that for most cats feeding after nadir may just cause the insulin to work harder...

sometimes the +9 snack just makes the insulin work harder...

Thanks Celi, that does make sense. I was thinking along those lines, but I was thinking the pancreas was working harder and kind of ran out of energy later in the day. So if I understand you, another words, the insulin is used up by the body faster :?:

Hi Barb!

iMHO, you should give it just a bit longer to see what the effects of the +9 snack are. I'm seeing better PS numbers; yes, she's had a couple later blue numbers but until you feel well enough to get a mid cycle test, I'd leave the snack in...it takes time to see changes with feeding. :-D

Thanks Marje, I'll try it then if you don't think she will keep getting higher and higher late numbers.
What time do you mean mid cycle? I thought I had most of it covered, by scattering the days and time.

I did take some time today to sleep from AMPS to +9, but I can still get up and do it again. I just needed a break… and I can do the night time +8,+9… since I stay awake till late.

Actually..you normally do a GREAT job of testing. I just want to see if she is staying higher during the cycle or not.....like today...did she get into green? Was today just an anomaly? If her numbers are trending up, then you can stop the snack but I'd give it a few more cycles. :-D

i'm voting for Marje's idea...

with Binks, the +9 snack encouraged his pancreas because it was producing some insulin on it's own...
i think Jill called it a "sputtering pancreas"

makes good sense to give her a lil time :-D

OK, well today, I'm not sure if she did go into green in the AM +3-+9 cause I was sleeping and that was an anomaly for me anyway! But I guess you mean, the +9 119, and if she had lower then that before the +9?

Sorry, my brain isn't working well…

Celi I like the word encouraged better too!
+9 snack encouraged his pancreas
I was thinking it would hurt her pancreas, so thats why I like the word encouraged better.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the snack/no snack experiment. I can see on Daphne's SS how the higher numbers started with the +9 snack, but I don't understand why there is such a long-lasting effect into the next day.

I know Randa, it's driving me crazy, it's just so strange. I guess I'm giving the +9 night snack again. I'll take the more experienced eyes on this one, and see what happens for a few more days or so. And also, I just thought of this, the +9 daytime snack never did this, but at nighttime we are dealing with the "dawn effect", so I can see that reason making sense.

Oh well, if I don't go to bed, I'm never going to get the numbers in the daytime that I need. DH will be doing the AMPS and the +3, and I hope the +5 maybe.

I think I should move out west a bit, it seems like these hours fit me much better then the east coast  Still up at 3:30 AM, no wonder my brain doesn't work. Hope you have a good night.

Hey Barb - I responded in Trix's condo, then realized you might not see it:

Yes, the post-shot monitoring is what concerned me, too. It was our first skip since Trix was diagnosed. She's really afraid of strangers, so I knew we really had no option, and I just couldn't miss Bruce. Daphne will be fine, too...but if you want me to do anything, please do let me know - I'd be happy to help out for such a good cause!
