Hi all,

I haven't got Lovey's teeth cleaning yet. I want to but.. Anyway, I like my new vet who recommends a dental. She is caring, never rushes you, and takes into account all my suggestions. but the problem is that she doesn't have dental x-ray machines yet and I don't want Lovey to go through it without the x-rays. She can send me to another vet in the franchise. She said that this other vet is very good. Ironically, it is the vet I tried before this one who had a lot of experience.. suggested Lantus but would not allow me to the initial curves at home. She was insistent to do the curves at her office. Lovey like most cats doesn't like the vet so I moved on. I have to decide whether to use her for the dental or look for another? My vet can't move to the other location to use the x-rays. The blood work that I just did is good for 60 days for the upcoming dental.

I am not sure if I would have to redo bloodwork if I went to another place. Do you think a dental specialist is important for a diabetic cat? If anyone happens to know a good dental specialist on Long Island New York. I would appreciate it? Lovey has never had anesthia before.

all good questions. Sienne has a post on dentals with things you can ask about - look on the New to the Group? sticky, go all the way to the bottom to find links on single topic posts.

We have had people in New York - I'm thinking Roni/Moonie lives in Long Island area. I'll contact her for you.

I took Neko to a dental specialist for her second dental. I chose the specialist for two reason. First, my vet, like yours, does not have dental X-ray equipment and there was a possibility she might need an extraction. And second, Neko has a heart murmur and I wanted to have a specialist monitoring her and doing the anesthesia. Your vet should know the name of a veterinary dental specialist. Here we have to get a vet referral to a specialist. The dental specialist was OK with the bloodwork results from my regular vet and contacted the cardio vetty for the echocardiogram results. Lucy/Marko is going to go to the same specialist I went to.

Just did a little googling, and this vet claims to be the only board certified veterinary dentist on Long Island.

Thank you so much Julie and Wendy. I am going to make a call and see what information I can get. Thank you.. I wonder if my vet would give me a referral for a specialist. She didn't mention it, but suggested the another doctor in her system. I know that I tried to get Lovey to see an internal medicine specialist at the hospital that you googled but they said a referral was needed.

Have a great night!
