Hi there, just wondering if it would be advisable to raise Samba's dose tonight or sometime soon? He earned a reduction last weekend, but his #s are still going into the 300s...I am not sure whether that would be considered a "failed reduction" or not. When he earned the reduction, he got down to 44 but not as low as the 20s/30s, so I am wondering if I can take him back up to that dose or if that would be a bad idea. Even though I can't test during work days, I know he's not well regulated just by his litter box, and it has gotten worse over the last few days...it is reminding me of pre-insulin days when the whole box was clumped up and more than half of his huge water bowl was empty after a few hours. He is back to peeing & drinking a ton. Thanks in advance for your input!! :joyful:

It looks like a lengthy bounce from those greens 3 days ago. I'm not an experienced Lantus-er so I won't give any firm advice re dosing.

Okay, thanks. If it's a bounce, I assume that means I should hold the dose...(?) I just haven't seen his thirst & urination to be at this volume in awhile.
 
It's hard to sort out if this is a bounce. I'm assuming you're at work during the day and it's amazing how earning a living interferes with our ability to test our kitties! In all seriousness, it's just hard to tell if Samba's numbers may be lower during the AM cycle when you're to home to test. The only time it's not prudent to increase if a bounce is occurring is if the bounce happens to be breaking. When that occurs, numbers are on their way down and increasing at the same time can put a lot of momentum behind the dropping numbers.

From the way the numbers look, Samba's nadirs are in a safe range. You should have room to bring the dose back up to 2.25u. Since it's the weekend, you'll also be able to see what things look like during the AM cycle.

Also, I would not want to see Samba drop too low. A drop into the 40s is manageable. I wouldn't look to see your kitty in the 20s or 30s as proof that the dose needs to be reduce.

I'd also encourage you to put information in the Comments section of your spreadsheet that indicates if and when your using HC food to intervene and bring numbers up. (You may know what you've done but we don't!)

Thanks so much for your response. I will not be able to test during the day tomorrow, but I will be able to tomorrow night as well as on Sunday during the day & night. I will do a curve on Sunday if that's helpful. Any times I fed HC, I noted it in the comments (I basically fed MC if he dropped to the 50s and HC if he dropped below 50)
 
His PMPS was 351, and I went ahead and raised his dose back up to 2.25 units. I am reluctantly volunteering for a friend tomorrow from 10am-7pm because they had a lot of volunteers back out at the last minute for a big event...I told her from the get go I couldn't do it because of Samba, but she made a plea to me when they lost volunteers, so I told her that as long as he isn't low in the morning (below 150) when I shoot, I will go help out. I purposely did not make plans in the evening though and will cancel plans Sunday to monitor Samba. If it's dangerous for me to leave him, I won't do it, so just tell me if I need to stay home. Samba is honestly my #1 priority, and I want him well. I feel so bad when I clean his box. It has to be uncomfortable for him the amount he is going to the bathroom.
