Good Morning, Everyone,

We had a different night than we expected: we spent it in the ER. Edward came down with severe vertigo and shaking, so I called 911. He had lots of tests--all negative. They suspect an inner-ear viral infection that apparently is going around, so they sent us home around 2 A.M. (We thought it might have been from a piece of dark chocolate that Edward ate 15 minutes before his symptoms appeared.) Rusty, who was very concerned when the medics came and took his papabean away, was delighted to see us come in the door. Rusty's bg was 61 and he was fine; I gave him his bedtime treat (the usual FF T&G) and nighttime food and we all went to sleep. Edward is still sleeping. Needless to say, we are not having a party here this evening. But one of our friends has volunteered to have the potluck at her house. Edward will stay home, but I will go. Off now to start the goulasch cooking!

Everyone have a good day. I'll keep you informed about how Edward is feeling as the day proceeds.

Ella, what a scare for Edward and you and Rusty, too! Glad he is okay and treated for the inner ear infection. Is Edward allergic to dark chocolate? I bet Rusty wondered about the medics? I like Rusty's AMPS. Enjoy the potluck tonight, and Rusty can take care of Edward. Tell me, what is goulash? I should know as my Mom is Ukranian and did a lot of ethnic food on the ribs cooking.
Sending some feel better and healing vines to Edward.

Re: 3/3 Rusty AMPS 98

  omg - what a night for you! I hope Edward is OK. What a fright that must have been. And poor Rusty - he must have been worried - but it was nice to see that it didn't up his BG.

How nice of someone else to host the party - what a relief for you. Enjoy! and I hope Eward will be better today.

Goulash! YUM! have a good day today.

Re: 3/3 Rusty AMPS 98

Oh no! Poor Edward. How scary for both of you. I hope he makes a quick recovery. I am thinking of both of you. And now you have me thinking about goulasch as well. We will need the recipe.

Re: 3/3 Rusty AMPS 98

Omigosh Ella, what a scare for all of you. I'm glad, an infection is "all" that it was. Too bad a virus has to run it's course.
I hope Edward isn't in ear pain.
Poor li'l Rusty must have been so worried about his daddybean.

Re: 3/3 Rusty AMPS 98

Oh my goodness! How frightening that must have been!

Please let Edward know we are thinking of him...

Re: 3/3 Rusty AMPS 98, +5.5 56

Hi again,

Edward is a little lightheaded, but otherwise OK. He slept all morning. I napped for about an hour and then made the Goulasch, which is simmering away. Now to the pharmacy to fill Edward's Rx for Antivert.

Rusty was a little lower than usual at +5, so I gave him some FF T&G along with Wellness Turkey for his lunch. He's napping in his cube in the sunshine, taking his afternoon "down time". The weather here today is springlike. Snow is melting like crazy. The streets are rivers. If this keeps up, "Mud Season" will be early.

Back later. I hope to get to some condos later this afternoon. I want to take some things over to the folks who are going to host the party and I still have to make the noodle dish that I like to serve with Goulasch. (I use the Austrian/German spelling, but this traditional Hungarian beef stew is spelled gulyás in Hungarian.) The recipe is simple: melt a little lard in a heavy kettle; throw in some onions; throw in some cubed beef; add about a Tablespoon of Hungarian sweet paprika for every pound of meat; add a Tablespoon of caraway seeds; add a little water, and cook. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve on noodles. I have a great noodle-casserole recipe that I'll post later, if there is interest.

Edward thanks you for your concern and well wishes,

Ella & Rusty

How scary for Edward and you and Rusty! Anne had (has) an inner ear infection over Christmas. The doc said it was viral labrynthitis. She had buzzing and dizziness but no shaking. Apparently it is very contagious. I hope Edward recovers quickly. My mom used to make goulash with ground beef, macaroni noodles, onion and probably paprika. Rusty is doing great!

Oh yes, indeed.

I am glad to hear that Edward is feeling better.

I'm glad that Edward id feeling better. You have such good friends to take over at the last minute. Poor Rusty, they took his daddybean away!

Yes please on your recipe! I think we all have mother's recipes for goulash, i never believed my mom's was authentic tough. She adds canned tomatoes.

Have a good night w/ your friends, Rusty will take good care of Edward. I hope you will not catch it if it is so contagious!

Re: 3/3 Rusty AMPS 98, +5.5 56

:YMHUG: Ella :YMHUG: Here is a huge hug for YOU!! It is so very stressful on the caretaker when something like this happens. I've been dealing with my hubby's diabetic episodes for 33 years so I know how it is. Two 911 calls in the past 3 weeks for us. Hang in there and don't forget to take care of yourself too!!

Re: 3/3 Rusty AMPS 98, +5.5 56

Hope Edward is feeling better. Rusty is sure looking good.

??? on the beef goulash I thought you were vegetarian ???

I got some nice avocados yesterday so you know what I'll be doing with those... Won't be waiting for Vyktor to get to the green floor though or they'll be no good :YMSIGH:

Hi again everyone, and thanks for visiting us. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to visit condos this afternoon. As usual, I didn't leave myself enough time to get all the cooking done!

I unintentionally omitted from the Goulasch recipe a Tablespoon of caraway seeds. This is a must (added in an edit tonight! (Yes, Serryn, I am vegetarian, but I make allowances from time to time. And I am an "ethical" vegetarian, meaning that I will occasionally eat meat, eggs, etc. if I know that the animals have been treated humanely, pasture fed, and slaughtered humanely. I am very careful about my sources of animal protein. This recipe dates from my pre-vegetarian, graduate-student days. I got it from a Viennese friend.) My mother's recipe for "Nameless Noodles" follows tomorrow. Stay tuned.
Exhausted tonight, not having slept much in the last 24 hours. Edward is doing well. But it's good he didn't go to the party, which was great fun and I'm sorry he missed it, but he would have overdone it!! In any event, now we have 2 more parties (maybe 3) scheduled for this month.

See you all tomorrow,

Ella & Rusty (who played vigorously when I got home this evening and looks to be starting a little bounce)

No offence Ella but you are not vegetarian. A vegetarian by definition does not eat meat at all, no matter where it comes from. You just don't eat certain types of meat. An ethical vegetarian is someone that doesn't eat meat (and is usually vegan or ends up being vegan) because of ethical concerns about the treatment of animals rather than for health or other reasons. You had me very confused :?
