hahaha punkster made me laugh! :lol:

so question - i just checked punkin at +9 and he was 111. I was surprised because his first two BG today were high-ish. i had company today so i didn't check him at +6. usually when i check him i give him a little bit of regular food (Fancy Feast) for a treat. do you think that missing that +6 bit of food would result in his BG dropping more than usual during the day? does that make sense?

also, i'm still trying to get the treat thing down - i had some chicken that was too jerky-like and he won't eat it. i've seen the lists on other people's posts, but haven't seen any of those items in our local pet store. I haven't checked Petco yet but we don't have the other chain pet store that's mentioned the most.

is a little bit of canned tuna ok? or a little bit of turkey lunchmeat? it had 2 gr carbs and that was less than 1%.

Actually, if Punkin likes the bonito flakes, they are way cheaper at an Asian grocery store. They are used in Japanese cooking.

As far as feeding, often giving food during the latter half of the cycle can cause numbers to rise. After the nadir, the effect of Lantus is decreasing. If you feed, there's less insulin to offset the normal rise in BG that food causes. We generally recommend that you not feed past +6.

i wouldn't exactly call it feeding him - i usually just gave him maybe a heaping measuring teaspoon after that +6 test - and i probably did the same if i tested him at +9. sounds like that might've been enough to up his BG. i just thought if it was low enough carb to feed him it was ok for treats.

i'll look into the bonita flakes.

Yeppers...I agree with Sienne. Unless Gracie is down low, we don't feed after +5. Nice day for Punkin today!!
 
so help me understand what a snack is. so is no FF regular food ok for a snack? or just a tiny bit? if i find the bonita flakes, how much constitutes a snack?
