Morning LL!

I got to go BTB after TSF this chilly Sunday morning. I woke up the second time to DH bringing me breakfast in bed and Kismet climbing up to cuddle. I love my boys <3 and I love it when it gets cold because it means he is extra cuddly cat_pet_icon Kismet has all 5 ps in place this morning. Good appy. I finally ordered an automatic feeder last night. (Nothing like late night ambien amazon shopping!)

Hope everyone has a great Sunday (or Monday for those of you further East).

Yesterday's Condo / Recap
AMPS 120 Picked over breffi... not his usual ravenous appy. Ate less than 1/4 of breffi.

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110, +2 124

Nice report and nice numbers! Good luck with the feeder. Trix, who LUVS to eat, never caught on to hers, but I know many kitties here do well with them.

So...with the ambien...do you actually remember ordering the feeder  ? I'd probably be shopping for boots (I'm an addict), not feeders :? ...hmmmm...maybe that could be the excuse I give DH for my ever growing collection  - "The Ambien made me do it." (I don't actually take Ambien...my exhausting kitty schedule has kicked my insomnia issues to the curb!)

Have a great day, Courtney!

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110, +2 124, +3 114

Hi Amy!

I got the Cat Mate C20 which has two compartments. Kismet is sensitive to noises (and so is DH in the middle of the night) so I opted for this one because it is supposedly quieter than the circular, multi-compartmental ones. It's also allegedly a bit more kitty proof. Kismet is very smart, and highly food motivated, so I hope he won't be able to break into it

I do remember my ambien escapades  It doesn't affect me the same way that it does most people. DH is out cold in about 5 minutes, and if he stays awake, does not remember ANYTHING lmao. He gets really goofy, too. I just get really relaxed, but it doesn't seem to affect my cognition or memory at all. I do tend to do most of my online shopping on ambien, though :-D It does have the affect of making me lose any frugal inhibitions... I usually buy books and cat toys. I hate spending money on myself, and it's the only time I feel indulgent. I just bought a couple of cardigans and blouses for work. My favorite jacket has developed two holes at both elbows. The patches you see on Professor's jackets? I'm quickly learning this is not a fashion statement...

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110, +2 124, +3 114

Morning Courtney ~O) ~O) ~O) though I bet it is now afternoon there...

What great day for Kismet, yesterday too. I see lots of greens. Well done little one.

I have read that it is cold in the mornings these days. A friend wrote this morning about snow flurries. SNOW? in FL? Stay warm - I think the Kismet knows the value of bed warmth. Nice too on the breffis in bed. Awesome!

nice on the feeder. I hope kismet likes it. They can be such a lifesaver.

Have a great one today.

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110, +2 124, +3 114, +4 90

Hi Michelle! We don't get snow this far south... last time it snowed was in 1976 (10 years before I was even born, boooo! ) and it was just a flurry. It will rarely drop into the 30's, but it has been in the 40's the past couple of mornings. Our winters are so short (last week we were in the upper 80's) so chilly weather is really anticipated by all. If it drops to the low 70's, Miamians bust our their Ugg boots and scarves  I really love cooler weather... I know, easy for me to say when I don't have to deal with blizzards and shoveling. I didn't see know until 2009 when DH took me to NY for my birthday.

In other news, we've hit the lagoon!   This cycle is looking a lot like yesterday's AM, but just slightly higher which okay by me. Since I have to go back to work tomorrow and have a busy, busy week ahead, I am happy to see these numbers with this dose. The idea of him dropping into the 50's when I am away gives me heart palpitations.

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83 Asthma :(

Oh how cute! I just sewed up the holes last night, but if they unravel, I might try something like this.

Kis just had a minor asthma episode about 5 minutes before +6. I got to him with his albuterol just before he started gasping and retching. Poor little guy. He was up in his window which was open when it happened. I promptly closed it up... so odd that sometimes the weather / open air bothers him, but more often than not, he is perfectly fine. I hate to turn on the AC on a day like this, but c'est la vie. I was expecting his +6 to be through the roof (and it might climb yet) but he only bumped up 2 pts since his +5  Guess I caught him just in time!

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83 Asthma :(

I use the same feeder. I'm not sure that Gabby uses it -- I think she sleeps all day. I suspect Gizmo is responsible for the clean compartments during the week.

Is Kismet's asthma allergy related? Do allergy meds help at all?

(BTW, just don't chase the Ambien with alcohol. Memory can really be effected if you do!!)

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83 Asthma :(

Hi Sienne, we're still not sure what triggers them. We've tried allergy meds before and they didn't work. Before he started inhaled meds, we also tried oral prednisolone and theophylline which had absolutely no affect whatsoever. He hates being pilled, so often the stress of trying to get the theophylline down would trigger an attack.

We have noticed that he is very prone to having asthma attacks after eating foods heavy with fish, though a little bit (like the fourth or fifth ingredient listed in a chicken or mixed grill pate) doesn't seem to bother him. Needless to say, there is no fish on the menu.

As far as him having seasonal allergies... we have no idea because he has episodes at all different times of the year. He had his first asthma attacks in September when he was dx, then went into remission the same time he was OTJ, and they both have co-appeared simultaneously. Weird, weird, weird. We often leave the windows open and he has no problems. It is cooler than usual today and a bit windy, so there may be something in the air bothering him. We just don't know.

Poor Gabby! You snooze you lose, I guess. I am going to record Kismet when he tries the feeder for the first time. He's very cautious, so it should be a hoot.

And  about alcohol and ambien... are you speaking from experience? I've never chased ambien with alcohol, but I have had alcohol prior to ambien and that is about as peaceful, restful of as sleep that you can get. ;-)

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83 Asthma :(

Hi Courtney,

Love hearing about the snuggles and the breakfast in bed. :-D Sorry to hear about the asthma. I feel your pain on the ambien amazon shopping (except mine is usually at the hands of a glass of wine!) Hope you guys are staying warm and enjoying the rest of the day!

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83 Asthma :(

Hi Deborah, about wine shopping! The dangers of online shopping are that it is just too easy. I hate malls with a passion, and do allllll my shopping online. I resent trips to the grocery store  thanks for stopping by and for the well wishes :)

Another thing we've considered re: asthma... it may also be triggered by low humidity. It's usually very, very, VERY humid in Miami, so we have often wondered if low humidity might trigger his fits. I am going to start watching the humidity levels more closely to see if there is any correlation. Having a special needs pud really turns one into a detective, doesn't it?

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83 Asthma :(

I'm sorry Kismet's asthma episode today.I'm glad you were there to help it from getting worse. Poor little guy.

Today's condo is cracking me up w/the late-night/otherwise-influenced online shopping. Sometimes I find odd iTunes songs purchases 'the day after.'

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83,+7 85, +10 106

Thanks, Josie. He seems to be doing okay and no noticeable affect on his bg :D I know, I'm loving hearing everyone's late night shopping escapades  At least when we don't remember what we order, receiving packages in the mail or hearing new music on our ipods feels like Christmas

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83,+7 85, +10 106

Hi Courtney,
We have the CatMate C-20 and Rusty uses it for all his meals as a "tray" (with the compartments open). When we are out and have to use it as an "automat", he knows just where his food will be. I love this feeder. It has it's own cold blocks that fit under the compartments (for Florida this will be great). I use small ceramic dishes inside the compartments. This keeps the food from getting pushed around and I like the idea of Rusty eating out of ceramic or glass rather than plastic.

I'm sorry to hear that Kismet had an asthma attack. Thank you for all your help with regard to Rusty's lung congestion problems. He hasn't been diagnosed with asthma yet, although he seems to have some asthma-like symptoms. It is very likely that he has chronic bronchial inflammation. (He was found wandering the streets in Plymouth, MA in 2008; no one knows how long he was on the streets. We still don't know how old he is. He has had his "breathing" for the whole time he has lived with us--since Nov. 2010.) Rusty's vet and I have decided to try him on Standard Process Allerplex (Marje's suggestion): https://www.standardprocess.com/Products/Standard-Process/Allerplex.

Have a good evening and I hope that Kismet is fine,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83,+7 85, +10 106

Interesting about the fish. You might keep track if Kismet has a reaction to beef. Fish and beef are big allergens for kitties.

I can't say the Ambien + alcohol is from experience. It's one of the interaction warnings for most sleep meds!

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83,+7 85, +10 106

Hi Ella, thanks for the tip about the ceramic bowls. Kismet gets fed in small ceramic bowls, so hopefully they will fit inside. I like the idea that it makes clean-up easier, too! Good luck with the SPA! I hope Rusty starts feeling better ASAP. I am looking forward to hearing more about his progress/reaction to treatment.

Sienne, thanks for the suggestion. He doesn't appear to have any beef allergies, but we rarely feed it just in case. He mostly gets FF tender liver chicken, chicken feast, turkey and giblets, and the chopped grill feast. There doesn't seem to be any correlation between attacks and any of the foods he eats. He has been on the FF diet since dx, and we were asthma free for 6 months while he was OTJ.

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83,+7 85, +10 106

@ Ella and Marje, I just looked up Allerplex to see the ingredients. It has sucrose in it... do you think this is safe for fd kitties?

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83,+7 85, PMPS 100

Hi again, Courtney,
Yes, I saw the beet sucrose, but it is the next-to-last ingredient on the list. We are going to give it a try in any event and see if it helps Rusty.

How's Kismet this evening?

Ella

Re: 3/2 Kismet APMS 110,+4 90, +5 81, +6 83,+7 85, PMPS 100

Kismet is doing much better tonight, thanks! Some of the other ingredients include wheat, oat flour, among other things. I am going to put a call into the vet to see if it is a safe supplement for FD. Let me know how Rusty does on it. Hopefully it won't have any affect on bg and will give him the relief he needs.
