Zoey's numbers really came down this morning and were looking so much better and now they're going right back into those ugly high numbers at the 8 hour mark. :/ I've been able to test her hourly and the spreadsheet is current. One ketone test just now ... negative.

I am assuming I'm not going to stress over "hi" readings if they reach that point before the pm shot?

Maybe it's the food and I may end up having to make her raw food but I was really trying to stick with canned if possible for ease of traveling with her or someone else taking over if we're away. She's on Friskie's Special Diet Whitefish Tuna. If there is another Friskie's that is lower carb, please let me know and I'll give it a try.

Lantus is a very different insulin than Vetsulin. It is much gentler (i.e., it doesn't yank numbers down typically). It also takes 5 - 7 days for an insulin depot to form. The depot is what gives Lantus its duration and allows for overlap between the doses. I'd also point out that Zoey's numbers dropped considerably between her AMPS and +4 at 136. I would not be at all surprised that given the drop of almost 400 points that Zoey's numbers are going to reflect a bounce. What this means is that Zoey is likely not used to seeing numbers in the 100s. So, given the size and speed of the drop in numbers, her liver and pancreas "panicked." The result is that a stored form of glucose and counter-regulatory hormones are dumped into Zoey's blood stream which cause her numbers to spike upward. This is a normal phenomena (albeit an annoying one).

I agree with Sienne - Zoey actually looks great for her first day on Lantus.

You can probably test a little less often - although we never turn away information! :D I'm really glad to see that 136 in there - that suggests this was a pretty good dose to start with. If you haven't read up on how Lantus works, it's helpful to understand it a bit. Not sure if we gave you that link already, but just in case . . .
