Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting in the Lantus forum. The numbers on Sassy's spreadsheet are a little random, but we're just finally getting good at testing her. Sassy is 10 years old, and we're feeding her Sophistacat with the occasional Fancy Feast (using the lower carb options from the Janet & Binky list). The vet has her on 1 unit of Lantus 1x/day, but I'm fairly certain she should be getting a second dose. We'll do more testing on Friday when we have the day off and can be home to do it all day, but in the meantime, if anyone has any feedback that would be great.

Thanks!

Welcome to Lantus Land!

One very quick suggestion is to edit the date in the subject line of your first post -- you posted on 3/30 (Tues.). Since we date our condos (our daily thread for each of our cats), people will ignore a condo that's not today's date.

You are correct in that Lantus is a twice a day insulin in cats. In humans, it is a once a day insulin but given a cat's metabolism, it's x2/day.

You're doing well with getting pre-shot BG or at least a reading every 12 hrs. Lantus dosing is based on the low point, or nadir, of the cycle. This being the case, it will help if you can start getting spot checks throughout the cycle.

You might want to check in the Tech Forum so you can link Sassy's SS to your signature -- it saves having to do this manually. There are also instructions in the Tech Forum for creating a Profile. The profile will include medical history, what you're feeding, when Sassy was diagnosed, experience with other insulins and when you switched, etc. so we don't plague you with basic questions.

Welcome!

You are correct - you should be shooting twice a day. Very good job in getting your spreadsheet linked. Since you are new, spend a little time peeking into other "condos" (threads) and read what people post. Also, be sure to read the "stickies" at the top - lots of good information in there.
