Either my .25 measurement was way off although the plunger did move like it was .25 or IKD what the heck happened. We're done for the night. Thanks everyone!

Karen, so sorry you are having a tough time at the moment, I understand how you feel at the prospect of losing Doodles, I feel the same. We can only do our very best, and then some, and you are an amazing bean for your boy. Hang in there, prayers for you and Doodles :bighug:

Now that you know the reason for Doodles stubborn high numbers you can start forming a strategy to keep him safe until it passes

Some very important information on IAA to keep in mind:

  • IAA is idiopathic. It just shows up spontaneously for unknown reasons.
  • IAA is self limiting and generally resolves in about a year.
  • The way it works when IAAs are present is that injected insulin first gets bound to the antibodies. Any insulin that does not get bound goes toward metabolizing sugars. How much goes to antibodies and how much goes to metabolizing sugars is anybody’s guess and a moving target
  • IAA can retard the initial rise of available insulin after an injection.
  • IAA can lead to an increase in the half-life of free (unbound) insulin in circulation because some bound insulin gets released into circulation.
  • The increase in half-life can lead to prolongation of action.
  • The release of insulin from the antibodies can happen at inopportune times
She probably didn't want to tell me since I broke down in tears twice in her office - lol. Does explain why no one wanted to answer my question and basically told me good luck with his diabetes and to keep them informed. Basically it's a "can't help you, sorry".
Most vets dont know much about garden variety FD much less IAA,
They can however help you by keeping the insulin prescription renewed.

Please ask questions.
