Hello everyone! Yesterdays condo: Chyna 3/28 Well, the ear I was talking about yesterday is still not looking very pretty...I wish the vet was open:*( I'm not even sure if they are open tomorrow or if they just closed for the whole weekend. They probably won't have room to fit her in but I'll call and ask in the morning tomorrow. I will keep using the salt water cleaning and polysporin on it a few times a day (my mom suggested it, she said that's what she did for her kids and she was a nurse years ago...) and maybe the warm compress Marje suggested. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Shes lost fur from scratching and above the eye it seems thin. Pics are here: Chyna Picasa I had trouble getting clear picures, those two are the best I could get...any help would be appreciated! Her numbers still look ok despite the infected ear...poor girl.

On a happy note, Chyna seems to be feeling fine other than the itchy swollen ear. Ate all her fuds past 12 hrs (loved the Merrick cowboy cookout we tried out, cleaned the plate right away!). Yesterday I took Evo out of the rotation for a bit again. She puked a bit yesterday after eating it, and she will barely touch it lately. So yesterday evening and overnight was just Wellness Turkey and Cowboy Cookout for mini meals. No poo yesterday, but 2 big ones the day before...looks like her normal is every second day and peeing/preening is fine, lots of purring. She was even a little playful last night, while I was stressing over her ear. She sat all pretty while I cleaned it (it is a little sensitive but she let me) and stared at it endlessly...probably thinking what a crazy person I am  Hoping everyone a happy healthy day :-D

I had to share a joke I just saw on facebook that really applies to my kitty and probably yours

Re: 3/29 Chyna AMBG 95 Trial Day 12 Swollen Ear?

Hi Rachel! Sorry to hear about Chyna's ear. I can't really see where the swelling is from the pics... is it near the sweet spot where you test her? Maybe she's a little irritated from the lancet pokes? Kismet had a bit of swelling on his left ear earlier in the week, and was a bit bruised. DH hit the vein kinda low down on his ear, and there was some internal bleeding/bruising which led to swelling. I think it got slightly infected, and he was scratching at it quite a bit. I cleaned it regularly with a warm washcloth with a bit of antibacterial soap and treated it with neosporin. It cleared up within a few days. You can take a flashlight and shine it on the inside of the ear to see if there is any bruising/red blotches.

Love the comic! So true... I can't leave my laptop open anywhere that he might get to it, or else he is all over it.

Re: 3/29 Chyna AMBG 95 Trial Day 12 Swollen Ear?

Thanks Courtney, I hope it clears up by itself with a little cleaning and such! Something like an ear infection or allergy must be causing her ear to be itchy enough to scratch for the last week or so though, and maybe she punctured it and caused it to swell...at least I'm guessing that is what she did since I just watched her scratch and she CAN reach that far forward on her face with her back feet, :o lol. I've never clipped her back claws but maybe I should, I'm unsure how (she's declawed on the front paws, she was when I got her at the SPCA).

Sorry, I know the pics aren't very good, I'll try do some better ones. I just went into picasa and drew a little white arrow pointing to the swelling on the pics:) It's the opposite side of the ear from where we do the pokes, and I've only been using her other (left) ear the past week as the right was so itchy...I just washed with more salt water on cotton balls and put some more polysporin on it.

I'm in the middle of a gigantic clean fest of the house, just vacuuming left so I'd better get it done:)

Re: 3/29 Chyna AMBG 95 Trial Day 12 Swollen Ear?

Hey Chyna. No fun on the itchy ear. And, surprises to mamabean that you can reach them. I hope you are enjoying Day 12!!!! Yipee. The time is coming. The falls are waiting for you.

Rachel. Just think how nice it will be to have your spring cleaning done! wow. Sounds like a lot of work.

Good luck on the nail clipping. I usually sit on the floor and put Fur Ball between my legs and then do the paws quickly. Sometimes DH will need to help if FB is in a fiesty mood but overall he is fairly compliant. I rub his feet a lot when we are doing lovings so he isn't as startled by the clipping.

I loved the Bring your cat to the office picture. Yep. Once would be enough. Fur Ball is not as 'annoying' as my Simon (GA) and Baxter (GA) were. My laptop was always full of hair.

Have a good rest of your Friday.

Gee, I think "Bring Your Cat to Work Day" looks like a stunning success! :-D :-D :-D Just like Chyna's OTJ trial looks like it's going to be a stunning success. :-D :-D :-D I hope the ear clears up quickly.

Re: 3/29 Chyna AMBG 95 Trial Day 12 Swollen Ear?

I really laughed at the 'Bring Your Cat to Work' pic since I'm sitting at my desk right now with a cat sprawled in front of the monitor purring away and pushing the keyboard into my lap. :D I'm totally stealing it for my FB.

I hope poor Chyna's ear clears up! Cleaning and disinfecting probably is the best treatment, but fingers crossed your vet is open tomorrow and able to see her if necessary.

Happy Day 12!! I hope Chyna's ear is starting to feel better by now.

I'd LOVE to take my kitties to work...the day would be so much happier, even if they did sit on my keyboard  !

Blech, our first blue in over two weeks...I'm thinking it's the ear infection bringing the numbers up:( I heard cowboy cookout has done it to some people too and that was our new food on the menu the past day so I'm freezing the rest of that for now. Either way, blech. I know it's still an ok number...Is it still a successful trial if infection drives BG up and if it keeps going up for the last few days? She's been doing so well

Her ear doesn't look much better, I'm going to clean and polysporin it again shortly. I don't know if I should take her to the vet tomorrow if they can get us in or just start the ear drops we have from last ear infection and hope the swelling gets better, or wait till Monday (although I may have to if they can't see me anyways). I don't really want to start them till the vet looks at it...but I don't want to drag her through the stress of going there either if it's nothing. Argh, I just don't know what to do or how long to wait to see.

I trimmed her back claws for the first time ever today, she was very good for me and got some treats after, hope that prevents any extra scratches on the sore ear. Only squirmed a bit at the end but still sat pretty, I am so blessed to have a cat like her even if she wasn't sure what we were doing confused_cat .

Housecleaning over haul is done...not quite spring cleaning, that is yet to come in the future with some closet cleaning and such! That was a relief. Thanks for all the nice encouraging posts today :-D
